Booked today....Lisbon..never been to Portugal...almost once when using miles..back in the "olden days" when you did by phone and they couldn't get me back from Paris but could from Lisbon..was going to spend a couple nights..then they called back and said Paris was available! So since it is one of few Western European countries I have not been to..giving it a whirl! Will cheerfully accept any advice, recommendations! Leave right after Labor Day.....

That sounds great! I like your style, Geordy--I see a pattern of you visiting somewhere new in addition to Paris on all your trips! We just booked our October trip--it's a bit later than usual and will lap into November this time. But just Paris

But just Paris Ah yes "just Paris" May throw in a day trip or two whilst in Paris as well...or not But my rule now is can't go across the pond w/o including Paris..and Paris has to be last call.......otherwise I just wish I were there..no matter how great any where else is!

That sounds great Geordy. And agree Paris has to be last call.
I had pork roll today for my first breakfast back in the US - thought of you!

I am a fortunate, well rounded(no pun intendedI ) woman..had you thinking of me , SSW, having pork roll Stateside and another friend thinking of me and e-mailing whilst having lunch in the Marais!

Shoesy, we'll be there 2 full weeks. We'll probably throw in a few day trips too. It's difficult to convince hubby to get a hotel room for overnights elsewhere when we're already putting so much into the apartment Maybe after retirement and our time there isn't so limited...

Annette, even when I'm there for more than 2 weeks I'm reluctant to go on an overnight trip. I like waking up in Paris. I vowed next trip I would take at least one overnight trip though. I'd love to see Lyon, Strabourg, Lille, etc. So many choices! Geordy I think the way you're doing it makes sense. Go somewhere else first, then Paris.

I'm with you Geordy. I love to explore new places but need to get my Paris fix too so I compromise and always leave Paris for last!
Lol about the pork roll breakfast. It's such an unappetizing name for something very tasty. We called it Taylor Ham where I grew up in North Jersey.

I agree about Paris having to be last. When we visited Normandy in 2009, our last night was spent in an amazing chateau near Mont St. Michel. I really didn't want to leave that place, and the only thing that made it doable was the fact that we were hearding for Paris.

Happy Labor Day weekend to all! Bittersweet long weekend for most Americans..at least those of us living with four seasons(sort of these days as it is the "unofficial end of summer", But for me it means, these days, a trip to NJ to see the sibs and celebrate my B'day(early) and then come back and head to France..Lisbon first this time! and then the actual B'day in Paris!!!!

Thanks for the B'day wishes..it was very happy indeed..a dreamy trip!
Getting there was a bit exhausting..flt delays and such..but really a magical time once there...a few quirks but what is a trip w/o them?
Will tell you tell you all about it once I settle in more..today had to go to a outside office meeting(good deal..starts later than and ends earlier than normal work day!)and there was this strange thing of water falling from the sky....something I did not experience once..not even a sprinkle for the entire time in Europe! Of course brought umbrella and short raincoat..didn't need once..not even the raincoat at nite for warmth!
