Nutcracker-Paris now I definitely have a reason to go in the winter. I wish now I had kept a list of every time I have seen it. I would have to say at least 25 times, one year twice, two different ballet companies. Also have a large collection of unusual nutcracker motif items.

the cafe at the Musee Jacquemart-Andre is supposed to be beautiful too, and the food pretty good (or so I've read) Maybe we'll have to check it out this December!
I looked through my pics from our visit this past December - I couldn't find any Christmas-y shots...too bad that we filmed our New Year's Eve dinner with my daughter's video camera, Gitte - we had a beautiful (and very very yummy!) Bouche de Noel for dessert.

Darling Gitte - Don't tell me that by now you haven't gotten used to the American way of writing dates ?

To my dearest Danish friend - No one, of course, expects you or the rest of the world to adopt anything American (except me, maybe ), but you should be used to the fact that differences do exist.

Ho! Ho! Ho!
I wish I had realized earlier in my life that I lived in a big, plastic and neon covered fun park!
Somehow I missed all that. Guess my book lined, Mozart filled house with organic food feasts, intelligent conversations with family and friends were all illusions.

Actually, he can thank me. or rather, we both grew up in homes like this. The only thing unique that he has brought is his "Danish sense of humor." When you come to visit, you will begin to see how incredibly diverse the U.S. is in every possible way. Unfortunately, the media plays up some of the least attractive aspects. But the people on this site are more typical of the people I know. It is just that the rest of the world tends to use what they see on TV as "American."

Okay GitteK, I nominate you for head of the "Keep Europe like Europe!" committee! I don't want Europe to get more like America..like it just fine the way it is!! Same with America..well most of it, most of the time...probably..... And Holger..what time does the stagecoach go by your place? I know you've got your schedule in Paris pretty nailed down..I'm still trying to figure things out and in! (unlike SOME people who already have next summer figured out!) S/O tells me he may have some business on the Thurs. 14 that we will be there..could that be a shopping trip day?? Will have to PM!

Annette (or anyone else who knows), is the Marche de Noel open at La Defense in the days after Christmas? Or does it run only until Christmas? It looks just wonderful and I'd love to go.

Good question happy! I've been to some of the markets in Germany and would love to see one in Paris...but I don't recall seeing any when we were there after Christmas last year...

I usually try to buy a Christmas ornament in all the places I travel. The Marche de Noel looks like a great place to find that sort of thing. But I won't be there until the day after Christmas.

Love this thread! Just remembering that at our small, intimate Christmas wedding (32 years ago), we had a Bouche de Noel as our wedding cake. I still have one of the little mushroom decorations packed away. This was long before I ever dreamed of getting to Paris. Prophetic, eh?

One our favorite ornaments are small Eiffel towers, you know the cheap metal ones from rue de Rivoli. Once home we asked our jeweller to drop them in gold and they look simply fantastic years after.

Happy, sorry for the late reply (just got home from our family trip). I wish I knew the answer to your question about the dates of the Christmas market, but I don't I looked back thru my photos to see if any of the posters had dates, but no luck there either. I did find some really pretty Christmas ornaments there, tho! Luc, I love your idea of dipping those little Eiffel Towers in gold!

Annette, thanks for the effort. I appreciate it. If I don't find out in advance of my trip, I'm sure I can find out easily enough when I get there.

Gitte, if you don't like that upside down Christmas tree, whatever you do, DON'T visit the tree display at the Hotel Meurice on rue de Rivoli!!! During December, they showcase a dozen or more trees decorated by local florists, and some of them are way out there! A few we saw were upside down versions, and some were even more blasphemous than that, so beware! Wish I had taken pictures! If any of you are adventurous, the Meurice is right by Angelina. Not sure of the dates, but the trees were on display the beginning of December the year before last.

For lovers of horses the Christmas spectacle at the Musée Vivant du Cheval at Chantilly would surely be wonderful. I've never been but if I were going to be in Paris at Christmas with one or more equine-obsessed children I think it would be a splendid outing. Anybody seen it? www.museevivantducheval.fr/fr/index.html
