All I wanted was a straightforward recipe for croque-monsieur, and a bit of information on how this bistro standard came to be. I wound up with a wide range of theories on where it came from and how to make it. parisianfields.wordpress.com/2012/12/09/what-a-croque/So tell me...how do YOU make it?

Lazing around in the afternoon would be absolutely perfect with some French tartine and a glass of lemonade. Basically, tartine, which is pronounced "tar-teen," is an open-faced sandwich. Kids in France especially love this, and since the French flag stands for great and distinctive food, the French have invented so many interesting ways of preparing this open-faced sandwich.
