Well, the chateau looks in much better condition but it's hardly palatial in size. To me chateau = big. ;D Let's not knock the village. Whose to say it won't catch the eye of some eccentric with sufficient wealth to restore it and bring it to life. We may be kicking ourselves then.

7 bedrooms and 3600 square feet on 3-1/2 acres isn't big? (and it looks to be liveable, too -- the energy rating indicates that they've kept it up to date with insulation and double-paned windows, so it's likely in pretty good condition.)
If you were to make it into a hotel or chambre d'hote, you'd have to add bathrooms, which wouldn't be cheap...but it's probably cheaper than knocking down and rebuilding an entire village.
anybody who takes on that village deserves every centime he gets for it.

Mossie - great idea! Paris is sure where we want to be. We used to have a baby sitter who was studying law in Paris but that was 30 years ago. We'll have a find a real good alwyer with real estate background SOON!! ;D We have 13 weeks a year! That should work with this group! We can have a big group each trip - who would tell? -Lilia

Mind you there was a TV report about the sale of Courbefy village on France 2 evening news a few days ago, and they said that there are LOTS of people - both French and foreigners - who want to buy it ! They interviewed a French man who said that he came to make an offer and hoped that he wasn't too late. The report never mentionned what any of the potential buyers planned to do with the place later on though ...
