It does sounds great - we are definitely not into clubs. I have one more apartment I am considering, this one is in the Marais district. It is another of Cecile's apartments, at a lesser price. She actually has two in that area but I prefer the one below, which is on the Rue du Bourg Tibourg . It is 60 euro more a night then the apartment on Ave de la Motte Piquet but it is within my budget (just). www.cecile-apartments.com/paris-marais-village-apartment.phpHappy to pay the extra money if the location is worth it. Thoughts??

Well, here are the differences in the apts, as I see it:
The one in the Marais (which btw is only JUST in the Marais...and that's being generous with a map) is 10m larger than the one near Invalides. It's also a 3rd floor walkup, which is actually the 4th floor to us Americans. Would your mom be comfortable with this?
Both apartments are lovely. I'm not a huge fan of the area close to the Hotel de Ville. It's too commercial for me, but you might prefer it. So that's a subjective thing.

The one apartment that is a bilevel means that not only would the person on the lower level sofa bed need to climb to use the bathroom but the bathroom is in the bedroom so it could disrupt the occupants sleep.
The rates listed are higher than many apartments I like far better on the perfectly paris website. Although having stayed in the 1st arr. many times, when we chose the apartment we now feel is home in the 9th, I was surprised how much I really enjoyed being in a quieter and less touristy area. There are hotels around and by the metro stops, lots of people, but it is a place where families and couples, live.
I think you and your mother should list what you feel are the non negotiable--the things you must have in the apartment and the things that would be deal breakers and then pick your apartments accordingly. When I stay in an apartment or an hotel, it has to be a place where when I get back and am tired, I feel happy walking in. If not, it pulls my mood down.

Kate,
Just wanted to chime in about the Marais apartment. It is a perfectly nice and safe street, but it is absolutely jammed on Sundays. It wouldn't stop me from renting it with my mother, I just didn't want you to be surprised.
