Not having cable I have not seen any of his stuff recently on the Travel Network. But I did enjoy his books and earlier show. It was one of the few shows where everything was not delicious and wonderful. If he didn't like something..or didn't think it was worth the hype..like the "deadly" blow fish..he let you know!
I saw Rachel Ray on Lettermen and she said if she hated the food at a restaurant she would go on about the many menu choices instead of saying the food was bad!
Again I haven't seen anything recent but don't recall him being particularly anti French. And I enjoy Les Halles where he worked(still is associated with?) in NYC. It is known as a place where if you order certain cuts of meat well done the wait person directs you to another cut because the chef will not cook certain ones well done!

A lot of people are dismissive of Rachel Ray. She may not have kitchen creds, and she may not be into haute cuisine, but she probably got a lot of people, who otherwise are too intimidated to try to cook, in the kitchen with her easy style and easier food.

Actually I like Rachel Ray...though more her shows on the Food Network than the talk show. Only seen it a couple of times, seems a bit frenetic and loud but perhaps it has improved?? And I don't need to be watching day time TV! Her creds in the food biz include the Food section of Macy's Cellar, which I loved when it first opened..it was a new idea for NYC at the time, and a" gourmet grocery" right around the corner from me Agata and Valentina!

OK, getting off topic here! We can compare the relative merits of Food Network chefs on the "Off-Topic Board"
