This may be no time for a laugh. I note that the strikers have shut off supplies of fuel to the Paris airports. While the management say they have several days supply, if those several days expire before you are due to fly, some of you face a long swim.

We had no problems on strike day but today was HELL with preturbations"...or however you spell that. Waited over an hour for a bus, couldn't get a cab, finally took the metro after a long walk to get it!

We ran into the manifestation this afternoon at around 1 p.m. on our way home from the bakery on Blvd Beaumarchais - This is our corner, closed to traffic for the protest march. We also heard the chanting and singing off and on, even though our windows were closed.

Just our daily baguette aux cereales and a tarte citron. The tarte citron was a great ending to our dinner of scallops, rice pilaf, steamed spinach and salad.

We decided to play tourists today and go to Champ de Mars from our apartment in the 3rd arron.
Bus 69 Chemin Vert stop is a block and a half from our apartment. We waited 15 minutes for the bus, not bad. However at the Bastille, the driver told us to get off, at least I think it was what he said and most of the passengers got off, something about the "greve".
We decided to just walk towards Isle St-Louis. But within a couple of blocks, we saw another 69 going down Blvd Henri IV, not its regular route. So we got on and asked the driver "champ de Mars?" Yes.........
So we were back to our original plan to see Tour Eiffel. But then on St-Germain and Bellechasse we were told "termini" (oops I think that's italian). So again I asked the driver about "Champ de Mars?" and was told "next bus". And sure enough the next bus was another 69 and this time it went all the way to Champ de Mars.
So, we finally saw Tour Eiffel after a week here in Paris. We decided to get some exercise and walked home: along the Seine, across Pont Alexander to Champs Elysees, through the Tuilleries and Louvre, rue de Rivoli, the Pompidou and on home.
Now, an apperatif and rest before dinner.....
;D

I gather from a posting on another site that the air traffic controllers may be going on strike tomorrow. Hope no one is caught in this although an extra day or two in Paris would be great if not awfully inconvenient.

I'm watching it closely--we fly over tomorrow. I've emailed Shuttle Inter to be sure they have gas to pick us up! Packing today (3 or 4 times more than I usually take! )

Good luck Annette. Hope you have a wonderful trip.
According to the British media the industrial action is hotting up, but I don't know if this is just hype, like the security threat when we were there the other week. We didn't notice anything extra.

I'm sitting in CDG and it looks like most flights are on as scheduled. We saw a few cancellations on the board (more in Nice), but, unfortunately for me, my flight is due to take off on time. I was really hoping for a surprise night in Paris, courtesy of the syndicats! ;D

Bon Voyage Annette! Now you can discuss the strikes as a resident!

Thanks guys! Our flight still appears to be scheduled and on time, but Shuttle Inter hasn't gotten back with me, which is odd! They have always been so responsive. I think I'll give them a call. *Just talked with them--she said gas is not a problem, and they will be there to pick us up as scheduled unless the road is closed by the police That's interesting...

I hope Annette made it to her new apartment!!
I have not seen any sign of the strike/protest this week altho the news today is saying that access to airports including CDG has been blocked yesterday and today.
Last Tuesday, except for a quick food shopping, we stayed in reading etc. It was a good day for that since it was raining almost all day. Yesterday, we walked from our apartment in the 3rd to Le Bon Marche in the 7th. Everything looked normal - lots of tourists still. Today, we went to the Richard Lenoir market, to Jody's neighborhood for more shopping and in our neighborhood for even more shopping. Everything looks normal.
