Hi Annette. I think it was Ian who posted a recipe for Potage Bonne Femme and it is basically leek and potato soup. I will have a look to see how similar they are. I don't want to get into a recipe "war" . The Food of France is a coffee table-size book. It was a gift, but the price tag is still on it. It was on a clearance table and cost $15. (What can I say, I have cheap friends). But since it wasn't my birthday or Christmas, I can't really look a gift horse in the mouth. She was thinking of me and that's all that matters. I use MANY of the recipes in the book. To name a few: the aforementioned soup, the pizza dough, the meat recipes are really great, the vegetable recipes are simple but very good, in fact, there was a thread mentioning tomato farcies (sp?) last week. I remember replying that I have a recipe and have always meant to make them. The recipe is in that book too. The pictures are gorgeous. At the beginning of each chapter, there is a foldout section with different cheeses, sausages, pastries, fish, whatever the chapter is on. There is a stuffed cabbage recipe that looks to die for...I will get specific info so you can try to find it. Maybe on Amazon??

Happy, that does sound like a nice cookbook--I will look for it. In the mean time, I would like to hear how the recipe in it that you love compares to Ian's recipe!

Hi Annette, the info on The Food of France is sparce. All I could find was that it was published by Murdoch Books in 2001. As I said, it's a coffee table book, mostly. It just happens to be a really useful one! Penny, life is uncertain...always do dessert first
