Well, that is the conclusion of this week's blog. We talked to some knowledgeable people in Paris who told us that Frenchwomen are, by and large, not bakers. And we note that Laura Calder, author of French Food at Home, states, "French home cooks are often precisely that: cooks, not bakers." After all, when you have a fabulous patisserie on just about every street corner, why would you do your own baking? As our friend Kathy Morton puts it, "Sacre bleu!Could it be that French women don't get fat because they don't bake or eat cakes?!" Interesting thought. awomansparis.wordpress.com/What do you think? on't think I would either if I lived in Paris. I'm not too sure I'd even cook!

I "know" two French women who bake--our own AnneParis afoodiefroggy.canalblog.com/ and Clotilde Dusoulier of Chocolate & Zucchini. But perhaps they are the exception to the "rule"? I can think of many among my American friends who do not bake and think I'm a freak for doing so! I can tell you that I will bake when I live in Paris, but I will also be a regular customer at at the patisserie across the street and at the one down on the corner ;D And I just thought of another French woman who bakes! Another Anne of ours! I know this because she has PMed me about baking soda, baking powder and Zucchini Bread!

The French women in France whom I know bake in about the same proportions as their sisters in the US, England, Germany, Italy, etc.
Some do, some don't, some do once in a while...
