Given that...Shoesy doesn't need the heels either! One thing that I will NOT be taking to Paris is footwear with heels. It's hard enough for me to walk around in flats. Happy - "Blister thingies" will definitely get packed. ;D

Oh Phread, it was definitely the heels (though I am sure your accent is perfect).

The bubble burst, ladies. My Parisienne friend informs me that it was merely because I was alone. Women alone don't linger and he knew he'd have his table back in no time. Gotta love those Parisiennes...

On a recent trip we were finishing aperitifs at the Cafe under the Arcade by the Comedie Francaise. It was a little after 12 when a couple sat at a nearby table...not set or with a place mat When they asked for two cafes the waiter said that was finished and it was lunchtime. They left. A few minutes later a very attractive lady sat and ordered a cafe. She got it.... Don't remember if she was wearing heels.....

There are comfortable shoes available??? Couldn't prove it by me/ I have just about every brand around and my feet still hurt!
I have orthotics, heel seats, gel inserts and whatever else you can name and my feet still kill me! I just grin and bear it!
I did read an article that told you what size heel you can wear comfortably. You sit and extend your leg. Get someone to drop a string or a ruler from your big toe. Then measure the distance from the string to your heel. Mine was 1 and 3/4 inches. And really a 2 inch heel is comfortable. Or at leaAST SOMETHING OTHER THAN A BALLERINA.

Very nice and practical shoes Katharine, love them.
The trouble is shoes weigh so heavy so you are limited in how many you take.
Now I am thinking about packing for a month, these challenges suddenly appear. Clothes you can wash but you NEED several pairs of shoes for all eventualities.
Love Denise

Those do look nice Katherine but I'd definitely need to "test drive" them extensively to see how the toe opening and strap act as far as chafing and such! But casual yet a bit polished..somewhat like my black patent with "diamond" circle buckle Naots!

Funny I should see this post today as I just ordered new walking shoes! www.onlineshoes.com/womens-softspots-albany-red-calf-ionic-p_id152884I got a new pair of these, my third pair. My original pair still looks awesome on the outside, but the cushy insoles were getting a little flat. I didn't realize how flat until I ran across my second pair on sale, so I decided to be proactive and pick up a new pair now. That way I can wear them just a little and get them all nicely broken in for my trip to Paris in the fall. I got my first pair on the recommendation of my doctor. I started a new job that required me to go up and down stairs a lot, and started getting a touch of Plantar fasciitis. The doc said they'd be great because of the good support, and the shoe salesman when I bought my first pair said they were the type he most had people with foot problems request on advice of their podiatrist. I got the shoes and never had another moment's heel pain after, so I guess they did the trick. ;D Those Dansko shoes look wonderful, Katherine, I will certainly have to try on a pair. I am also planning a stop at the shoe store where I purchased a pair before in Paris, those were the most comfortable high heeled pumps I ever owned and I am hoping for a repeat. Sadly, I didn't think to examine the brand until wear had obscured the printing on the inside of the shoes.

I wore what I thought was the most comfortable pair of slide-on brown Sketchers. Well, the cobblestones of Paris showed me. I ended up with blisters on the balls of both feet! I actually felt them with each step. But while they did cause me take sit-down breaks more than I wanted, they didn't ruin my time. But I learned it is worth searching out the best shoes for the greatest walking city in the world.
