Good Luck to you too Annette! I decided, as a New Year's resolution, that I would really buckle down and do some serious French language study this year. So, I took the test for the Alliance Française (which luckily happens to be within walking distance of my office). I have class until 8PM, which means I won't get home until 10! But I've heard good things so I am hoping it's worth it. And, in May, I'm taking 4 hours of private lessons in Paris! I'll let you know how that works out - it may be something you might want to look into. I'm going to concentrate on spoken French, as my class is grammar intensive. The lessons are going to be here: www.lutece-langue.com/I liked it because you can mix and match...a lot of places only offered week-long classes and I only wanted the private lessons. So I will be sure to keep you posted.

My AF class is Mon and Wed, 6-8. But I have an hour and a half commute, and take a commuter train, which doesn't run frequently that late at night, which accounts for the long day. But on the bright side, the long commute = study time. At least that's the plan!
In Paris, I signed up for 2 days of 2 hour lessons, in the afternoon. They were REALLY accommodating, and have been great to deal with so far, so I am very excited. I will be sure to give you a full report. It might be good for you, as the private lessons allow you to focus on whatever you want. Like real estate lingo... ;D

Sis - Bonne chance to you ! I bet you'll ace that course, and once you've had your private lessons in Paris, you will have really mastered the language. Annette - How romantic that you and Darryl will be learning French together !

Shoesy, I fail to see the romance......... What if the teacher is a real browneyed Jean-François macaron who's "easy with his eyes" as Roniece calls it. THEN of course Annette will pick up French much faster than Darryll - and HE will be so jealous and annoyed that he won't speak to her ever again. And THEN how are they going to practice together ? And what's Darryll going to do with that apartment purchase, now that Annette is moving in with her browneyed Jean-François to get intense "grammar training" after class........? shoesy, shoesy: you sure know how to complicate things..........

My dear Gitte - Whenever couples do things together, I think it's romantic. Besides, Annette and Darryl have a common aim, which is to improve their French for their future Parisian pleasures. Besides, no Jean-Francois can compete with Annette's hubby. Have you forgotten what Darryl looks like???

.. What if the teacher is a real browneyed Jean-Francois macaron who's "easy with his eyes" as Roniece calls it. LOL!!! Gitte... it's 'easy on the eyes'!!! if he were 'easy with his eyes' then that would mean he was just plain easy!! LOL!

Roniece, I think its' time for you to give us a more detailed explanation about the distinction easy with --- as opposed to --- easy on the eyes ...... I have a feeling that Annette's browneyed macaron Jean-François is both ! ;D ;D As well as mighty easy with his hands...... ;D ;D

After all this talk, I bet that Annette searches for Madame Meanyhead to be their tutor. ;D

Absolutely wrong, shoesy. It's Darryll who is searching for Mrs Meanyhead. Annette is already dreaming about her macaron Jean-François.......

You guys are too funny! Annette, I could be your tutor, but my commute costs might be a tad expensive. ;D Annette and Sis, I think it's wonderful you guys want to improve your French. Don't forget that practice is very important, and you should practice as much as you can, using French in all your daily activities, day and night! Jo

I wish I could be as dedicated as you people. BUT I AIN'T, I'm just plain old and lazy. Anyway to settle Shoesy and Gitte down, many years ago I learnt that by far the best place to learn another language was "on the pillow".

And an exalt from me too......... You know, "easy with his eyes" was my misunderstood interpretation of Roniece's expression. Because every time Roniece talks about one of her Paris gentlemen admirers it's something with "easy ...xxx....the eyes" ! And knowing how my beloved Aussie attract male glances like bees to a honeypot - I naturally assumed that a real Jean-Francois loverboy would be one who had his eyes (and paws ) all over you !!! - hence: "easy with his eyes !" But it appears that it's called "easy ON the eyes" - meaning a whole different thing !!?? Or maybe not all that different...... LOL ! OK - enough of this nonsense. Roger, over and back to the French grammar lessons !!

Good luck with the classes! I'm working my way through Rosetta Stone now. A friend had bought it and didn't like it, so gave me the full set. I've only just started, but I am enjoying the lessons. The plan is to finish up with the free Rosetta Stone set, then see where that places me with the Alliance Française training. And tut tut all this talk about easy eyes and hands! : Be sure to let us know if he's cute! -*gigglefleeeeee*-

You all ought to be ashamed of yourselves, taking my innocent and serious thread and trashing it up so! Why shame on you, as *I* would never do such a thing. And you made me scared all day that I would end up with Madame Meanyhead ...or worse, Annette's tutor!!! So you can understand that I was terrified when I walked into the class last night , and even more scared when my teacher reprimanded a fellow student before class for speaking English!!! OOh, I was shaking in my shoes, and of course every bit of French I knew went flying out the window when class started and we had to go around the room and introduce ourselves to one another by asking each other questions. All in French. GULP! But once I admitted my nervousness to everyone, all was better. And Madame - or rather Madamoiselle - Meanyhead turned out to be a very lovely, very cute, very nice girl from Avignon. She speaks beautiful French and she was very patient and I think she's going to be a great teacher. The 2 hours flew by, and despite my problems speaking I understood most of what she said. Whew! SO, I am still a bit scared but happy because I think that I'm going to learn a LOT in this class! I am very very impressed with the AF so far, so I will keep you all posted. And who knows...perhaps Macaron Jean will be MY private tutor in Paris in May? A girl can dream, right?!?! ;D
