:)Hi everyone ! We have friends who used to be our neighbours but left to live in Israel for two years. They are now back to Paris but their ex-apartment was of course, no longer available. So, they had to find a new one and chose the Marais area for a change. Last monday, they called to invite us for a cheese fondue party in their new apartment, which simply is... Jim Morrisson's ex apartment in Paris !!! This is where he actually died ! So of course, our friends showed us the apartement in details and ze infamous bathtub ! The bathroom where he supposedly died is exactly like it was at his time. The rest of the apartment is beautiful, with splendid ceiling moldings in the large living room, three large bedrooms, two tiny old-fashioned bathrooms, and a long narrow corridor leading to a minuscule kitchen at the very end of it. Our friends told us that, everyday, they have tourists asking to visit their apartment !!! Even though I have never been a fan of the Doors, I found it impressive to be in the place where Jim Morrison lived, slept, ate, etc...when he was alive. Anne

>>>The bathroom where he supposedly died is exactly like it was at his time<<<Well, I hope they've scrubbed that bathtub a few times ever since....... I can't remember the Doors at all. I think I was either too old or too young - or just a too boring bookworm to be into that kind of music. So to me Jim Morrison is just.......... another dead guy. Anne, you get an exalt for being excited by being in that apartment !! LOL !! You know, to me as a tourist that is so funny ! Í mean, I can't turn round a corner in Paris, without running into some building that used to house a worldfamous artiste, master chef, writer, painter, sculptor, philosopher, king, emperor, princess, countess, demi-monde, spy, serial killer........ - and your Parisian jaw just dropped waaaay down low at finding yourself in Jim Morrison's (of all persons ) apartment. ;D ;D That's cute.

Hey, when I read your answer, there was your first sentence only ! Ohlala, mais Madame, you are being very saccarstic, aren't you ? Well, given the number of people who visit his grave at Pere Lachaise everyday, I think anyone (even you ) would have felt rather impressed ! And yes, i am the opposite of a blasée person and I love it ! Anne

No no, I had no intention of being sarcastic ! Please don't misunderstand. It's just that the things we have around us every day, we tend not to notice - so for you as a Parisian all those "famous" sights and monuments are parts of you everyday life. It's only natural. So for you that apartment would be something exotic and exciting. It's the same as with ethnic foods: some of the most popular eating places among the young Parisians seem to be ethnic restaurants (if you can trust the votes on fr.cityvox.fr) - instead of grandma's boring old French cuisine ....... which us tourists can't get enough of !! God forbid that we ever become blasé, that's one of the worst illness'es that can hit a traveler, because then you lose your ability to find adventures and delights in unexpected places. Even going to the top of the Eiffel Tower can be a thrilling experience, if you bring an open mind and a positive attitude. Oh my ......... does this make sense at all ??

Wow, Anne - that's creepy and cool all at the same time! ;D As you say, millions of people have visited his grave, but how many can say they've dined in his apartment?! That's a story you can tell for the rest of your days. Joy

;D Anne - I think that's super cool. I wasn't a fan of that group when I was growing up because I wasn't into that kind of music, but since I'm much older than Gitte, I know about them, and from TA I became well aware of the fact that many tourists look for J.M.'s grave in Paris. And since we all have a cool story to share, I'll reveal that I went to school with Steve Tyler, the soloist from Aerosmith.

Anne I was a fan.....and am duly impressed! Their first hit "Light My Fire" came out at the right time for me...I Had not yet experienced what he was singing about but was D$#% curious!!!!! But then he got too far into the drugs and doing lewd things on stage and my attention drifted elsewhere.. Another handsome, talented life gone too soon.... I did visit the grave on my first trip to Pere Lachaise..along with Chopin...I am diverse! Had never really thought about where he live in Paris....how cool.! What part of the Marais...not that I want to cause your friends anymore visitors! I wonder if they filmed part of the movie..with Val Kilmer and Meg Ryan..in Paris???

Another "cool" exalt from me! Every time I hear a Doors song on the radio, I think of his non-descript grave at Pere Lachaisse and how drugs destroyed such a wonderful talent (as it did so many times in the 60s). Shoesy, can you call Steve and tell him to get his act together, he's acting like a fool these days! ;D Hey, most of us get excited by celebrity sightings, it's just part of the world we live in. I turned into a rambling fool when I met Robert Plant in Paris last year (and I'm still waiting for the picture his friend took of us to show up in my e-mail. Maybe I should just give up on that dream, wouldn't you say? ) Very cool, Anne........

Gitte, don't worry, I understood your explanation. And yes, when we live in a city, we don't see things the way tourists do. Guess what, last time I went on top of the ET was when I was 6 years old !!! Keylimejet : this is exactly it : creepy and cool at the same time ! Now I have a lot of questions : who is Robert Plant ? Who is Bobby Vinton ? As for Tyler, I know his daughter Liv, lol ! And last but not least, can someone explain to me what an "exalt" is ? Of course I have an overall idea of the meaning but can someone be more precise ? Merci !

Geordy, He lived in rue b..., a very small and quiet street close to Hotel de Sully. Haha ! I wonder how many people will "googlemap" this info ! And as for the number and the main door security code, how much are you willing to pay me for that ;D ;D Anne

Perhaps a little bubbly on my next trip! Whenever that is And yes Shoesy...speak to Steven...and where did you go to school with him...I thought they were the Bad Boys from Boston? Bobby Vinton..otherwise lnown as the "Polish Prince" was big before the Beatles and rock and roll took over...:Roses are red my love" Then he had a Polish/English hit in the late 70s/80s??? and made a huge comeback for awhile... ....Exalts go into your "karma" # and are given for a variety of reasons, kindness, right on ness, insight, wit..whatever

What do you mean, who is Robert Plant!!!!!! Only the hottet, sexiest lead singer of the biggest rock band of all times, Led Zepplin! Except that he's now 60 and doesn't look like that anymore, except in my eyes! (Look up the lyrics from the Lemon Song for a little thrill!)
As for exalts, at the bottom of your info on the left hand side, you will see "Karma" with a number. When someone likes what you posted (or just likes you!), they can give you an exalt and each exalt = 1 karma point. I see your karma has gone up a few points since you posted about Jim, so lots of people liked your story.
Bobby Vinton ~ ah, there's a blast from the past. I think he sang, Roses are red, my love, violets are blue...........Am i right, Jody?
Who we like is so relative to so many things, especially when and where we grew up. I am a classic rock kinda girl, so I'm still stuck in the late 60s and early 70s.

Geordy, No, No, Robert Palmer sang Addicted to Love. Robert Plant had long blond curly hair and always wore the tightest jeans to show off his best feature! Lots of gutteral wailing and blues singing, especially in the first 3 albums. Led Zepplin was huge in the late 60s and early 70s. Their biggest hit was Stairway to Heaven. Robert Plant now tours and records with Allison Krausse and they won several Grammys last year for their album. Sorry, I'm a little touchy on Robert, now that I've met him and we're practically best friends (in my head, at least!) ;D
