Those flavors sound yummy. BTW, I bet I could devour those 6 macarons in less than 2 minutes. ;D

It's grand to be in Paris. This is lunch dessert after some fruit and a piece of cabichou on a slice of baguette and fois gras on another slice of baguette - ;D

Trader Joe's has macarons! They're in the freezer case (12 for $4.99; 6 chocolate, 6 vanilla). I bought a few boxes the other day, and they're pretty good, but probably shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as Pierre Herme or Laduree! But not too bad when you're thousands of miles from Paris and don't feel like making them yourself.

Splurged and got my aunt and uncle the Lemonade Stand macarons (on Etsy) for Christmas.
I'll let you know how they like them.

Nice gift, Rachel. Wouldn't mind having a macaron or 2 right now. In Israel it's customary to eat jelly donuts for Chanukah. So many people like them, but I've never understood why. They taste greasy , and IMO they're not worth the hundreds of calories.

I find jelly donuts vary from the practically inedible to the sublime! And some from Eastern European bakeries have granulated rather than powdered sugar on them! When I was a kid we often had those kind warm from the bakery on Sunday mornings! Nice memory!

In France we have doughnuts (beignets) mostly for Carnaval, in February. Although Christmas markets in the NE of France sell doughnuts too, rolled in granulated sugar with cinnamon. Also a nice childhood memory .

I'm with you Shoesy, though David did seem to be enjoying the one he had yesterday while I was grocery shopping. He never passes up their bakery!

A local news station just did a report from a kosher bakery in Brooklyn (Weiss' in Borough Park)and their jelly donuts! They also featured the ones filled with custard and topped with chocolate...and their specialty ..... instead of jelly filled with caramel!!! Instead of sugar they also have some of the caramel drizzled on top!!! They look divine!

Geordy, you DO realize, don't you, that if you are going to post such things you must be prepared to carry out the obligatory OPF "research"?!! ;D

Well, my Christmas gift went a bit awry! Lemonadestand is now shut down online as Christina rethinks her business. I feel awful for her because I know she loves baking these lovely treats, but this was a side business and Christmas rush was a bit too much for her. My order was mixed up with someone else's so my aunt and uncle got a BIG surprise ("Who's Catherine and why is she sending us cookies?"). They were good, but not what I ordered in flavor or quantity. I got a full refund and a huge apology from Christina. I hope she does return to her side business as I know they were very popular on Etsy. She even offered to hand write a special note to my relatives according to what I sent her. For now, it looks like we'll just keep having to return to Paris for our favorite treats.

Rachel - Sorry your gift didn't work out , but it's kinda amusing picturing your relatives trying to figure out why a mysterious Catherine would send them cookies. ;D
