Does anyone have any info/recommendations of places in the 3rd or 4th arrondisements that may be open on New Year's Day? Also, are all the markets closed in case we need to pick up any essentials? As always, thanks!

Hi travelluver,
There should be plenty of restaurants open on New Year's Day. Many close between Christmas and NY, but those that stay open during that period will be open on NY Day (that it, if they are regularly open on that day.) I've spent 2 New Year's in Paris and will be there again this year and have never had a problem. The markets should also be open. If you're going to be there on New Year's Eve though, I suggest buying something from a market and avoiding eating out at a restuarant...most places have special menus and it can be quite pricey!

My friend and fellow OPFer had a nice NYE dinner at Chez Fernand on NYE last year. She said it wasn't too expensive. It's a really good restaurant on rue Christine

If I can at all find the euros, I may consider an extended New Year's weekend. So keep listing those restaurants !!!

I think when I finally retire, we will seriously think of moving to Denmark. Then we, too, can just pop over to Paris for long weekends and holidays.
Lucky you! Have a wonderful time and a very Happy New Year.

:)Great news Gitte.....sighs,.....wish I could join you. I am green with envy
Isn't it great when you can just book a trip on the spur of the minute?
Maybe if Father Christmas is generous I may do the same!!

Local markets are always open for the holidays. They know that the Parisians want to eat and that they want to spend money for the holidays.
