After a delightful breakfast at our charming Hotel Churchill, we set out in our rental and headed for Caen, where we would visit the famous Caen Memorial (Peace Museum), with exhibits displaying events leading up to WWII , the Normandy Invasion, the Cold War, as well as the fight for peace. There is a lot to see in this museum, and that’s the only reason we went to Caen because as a city, it is not particularly attractive IMO. The museum, on the other hand, is very impressive and edifying, but after having spent approximately 2 hours looking at models, photos and videos, I felt more than ready to devote the rest of the day to outdoor activities.
Our next stop was Deauville, which is a lovely beach resort. There we had ice-cream and lunch, which consisted of delicious galettes, and all in all, it was a relaxing few hours.
From there we drove to Honfleur, a lovely picturesque harbor town, and there we walked around and enjoyed the atmosphere until it was time to have dinner. We more or less did “eeny meeny miny mo” ;D in order to decide where to sit, and my meal was a yummy goat cheese salad, while Shlomo, who had been craving pizza, had just that. He also ordered a glass of Calvados, but he wasn't particularly crazy about it.
It was a splendid day from start to finish. The weather was perfect.....lots of sunshine.
Here are a few photos from each city/town :
CAEN
The crack in the building symbolizes how war disturbed peace and harmony.
The Nazi uprising
The plan of invasion
Dug-in sheltered cannon position (Shlomo helped me with this caption. ;D)
After exiting the museum, I'm ready for some outdoor fun.
DEAUVILLE
Note the casino, which we did not visit.
Shlomo admired these creatures.
This in no way tasted like Berthillon.
Look what they're playing ! ;D
Can there be anything more serene than a beach ?
I wouldn't mind owning one of these houses.
HONFLEUR
What a lovely harbor!
And the addition of Shlomo can make any scene more delightful!
Cafes and restaurants
Shopping for souvenirs
