Hi Denise,
Thanks for the great report - what an exciting day you had - I would imagine you were a little frightened when the manifestation crowd moved your way!!
I can't imagine doing all that walking in one day - I'm sure you were relieved to get back home and rest your feet and legs.
Glad to hear you had a good time.

I daren't calculate how far you walked, but I think your legs must be several inches shorter. Mossie - I bet Denise's legs look more shapely (sexier ) after all that exercise.

Yes, Shoesy...I certainly hope that is how it goes (lovelier legs as opposed to shorter legs after much walking!)...as I certainly don't need MY legs any shorter!

:)Thanks for all your birthday wishes and positive comments. I was not looking forward to this birthday as it brings me nearer to 60 but I think it is the BEST way to celebrate. Cybee...the manifestaton was right in front of Notre Dame, we only found out later what it was about. I suppose some people disagreed with what they were protesting about. They were all very well dressed and it was strange seeing well dressed people fighting. Some of it looked nasty and people were obviously injured. Sandy...strangely we were not afraid when the violence started. Tourists in the queue just stood around fascinated. I am not sure what the missiles were, but it was only then we thought we had better get out of the way. We noticed the police carrying canisters of tear gas as we walked away and we could smell the gas, not pleasant, sort of got in the back of your throat. Sorry I didn't notice if Amorino was open. In fact it was not till TUESDAY that we had an ice cream at the shop at the bottom of rue Montorguiel is it called Delices or something similar. Do you know there is not an ice cream shop in the Marais!!!!! Shoesy...I thought I would give falafal another chance as Vicky doesn't eat meat and it is difficult to cater for non meat eaters in Paris, but I wasn't converted. I don't dislike falafal, in fact I like them but I can't understand why people go into raptures. To me they are just very ordinary food. Yes folks my legs were like jelly and wobbly, my feet were not too bad, thank goodness, I had plimsole like shoes . Denise Love from england

Denise,
Many thanks for sharing the details of your trip - you write beautifully. The photographs are superb and make me very excited - only 11 days to go until my trip. I must look up the location of La Chocolaterie de Jaques Genin. If I only manage one treat, remembering that I will be at the beck-and-call of two teenagers, it must be that no matter the cost. I love the photos of you both on the velibs, though I thought your handbag looked a bit vulnerable. So glad you enjoyed your birthday and what a wonderful way to celebrate. I look forward to the next instalment.

Hi Denise,
Thanks for the great pictures. Both you and your friend look very stylish and Parisian, especially with the jaunty scarves!
The chocolates and coffee looks like the perfect treat to me! We will make sure we visit this temple to chocolate in May.
Speaking of May, what are your dates? We will be there May 15-31. Would be great to finally meet you if we overlap.
As for ice cream shops in the Marais, I'm pretty sure there is an Amorino on rue Vielle du Temple, but maybe it is no longer there.
Keep those reports and pictures coming, you are saiting our PPD!

Denise, kudos to you for the fabulous pics! Thanks for posting them. Leave it to you to post a picture of the loo...but I have to say I love a good loo.. ;D It looked like you guys had a great time, regardless of the "violence." Glad to know you were really safe. While I realize you got one year closer to 60, you certainly don't look anywhere near that. And you certainly don't act like it (by that I mean you act so young!!). I hope you did have a great birthday. What a wonderful way to celebrate. Katharine

Hey you guys.......... please refrain from referring to 60 as some kind of curse. Guess who's going to be celebrating six decades in a couple of months. Denise - I was delighted to see your photos. In case you didn't know it, you look really hot in red , and your friend Vicky is quite lovely.

Here are the picture from day two. Neither of us thought to take pictures of the manifestation, we wold never make journalists! :)The BEST croissants in the world are produced here on rue de Rosiers. IMO. 1 2 Breakfast in the apartment rue Francs Bourgeois newly washed in the morning. 3 Notre Dame 4 A walk in the Luxembourg gardens 5 I ams sure you have all seen this large door in Rue de Vielle du Temple. The image is designed to frighten away bad people. 6 The Marais is full of old mansions of the rich known as Hotels, here is one of them. 7 Lovely flowers on rue St Antoine 9 L'as du Falafal. 10 11 12 The Eiffel tower always looks beautiful to me all lit up.

Oh, your pictures are making me so homesick for Paris, I just wish I was there RIGHT NOW (but, alas, I have 46 more days to go). We will have to check out the Salon de The Korcarz for those croissants since our apartment is just a few streets from there. Thanks so much for sharing, keep 'em coming! Jo

Denise,
Thanks for the link - I am now in chocolate heaven. I just wish that I had read all about this a few weeks ago so that I could have lost a few pounds in advance (and I am not talking currency here!). Please tell me that your handbag came to no harm plonked in the velib basket. My husband, the eternal pessimist, is saving the thick elastic bands off bunches of asparagus to use around his mobile and wallet as he read that the bands make such items more secure whilst in your pocket. He obsesses about elastic bands, I obsess about chocolate, croissants, historical monuments, street markets, etc. etc. etc. I can't wait.

Denise, more pictures are fabulous, but I have quite made a spectacle of myself (even in my own armchair) drooling over the croissant aux amandes and the regular croissants. I have just eaten and my stomache is rumbling again! Chou-chou, dear, please know that I had no intentions whatsoever of implying that 60 was anywhere near "old." And honestley, I would never label anyone on this forum as approaching "old." Isn't that a state of mind, after all? We are all fabulously young, n'est pas? Oh, and Densie, do you have to rub it in by running yet another timer to count down to your next trip. I mean, really, rubbing it in a bit, aren't you??

Katharine - Don't worry. I'm actually very O.K. with this age thing. My hubby is 3 years my senior, and he's still an energetic hunk IMO. In addition, there are some wonderful posters on this forum for whom 60 is a number in the past, and they are just as beautiful, full of life and eager to visit Paris as any of the "baby" posters who haven't even reached the age of 50. Let's face it..........today we're more youthful than our parents were at our age.
