I found a photo of an old postcard of my cross street, so I took an identical photo to compare the view 100 years later. Things have not changed as much as one might think.

Wow, you're right! The shutters and awnings are gone, but other than that things haven't changed much (okay, and a highrise in the background). This was fun, thanks for sharing!

This is one of the things I love so much about Paris, especially the 18th. I love History, and its like being transported back in time. You have to take the time though to stop and look up now and appreciate the architecture that has been so well preserved. I find myself wondering about those people photographed, are any of their relatives walking that very area today?, and I believe their steps would be much slower and less hurried than those of the people in the picture below. The only obvious change is that of the building on the left, between the others. I enjoyed looking at this, thanks for sharing. If you come across more I'd love to see them.

I found a whole stock of antique photos of local streets and will be going on a photo safari soon. Some of the places I recognized immediately and some of the others will take a bit of hunting.

I kept looking at this old postcard and it just looked so familiar, but I just couldn't exactly place it. Then I finally realized that it is the building that I see out of my living room window every day. It is very likely that the photo was taken from a window in my building, maybe even my very own window.

That's so cool, Kerouac. I wonder why it took you so long to figure it out.

The big missing arch entrance on the corner threw me off. That's the post office now, and the entrance is on the street on the left. That corner angle is where 2 of the 3 ATM's are located.

somone posted the intersection and I found it to be the one in Caillibotte's Rainy Day in Paris but they didn't post where it was. Here's a site you will enjoy parisavant.com/index.php?showimage=761

Yes, the intersection is Place Paul Eluard -- which absolutely nobody refers to other than as "Place Marx Dormoy" because that's where the metro station is.

Cool Kerouac! A question popped into my mind when looking at this last one--when was the advent of the iconic neon pharmacie signs?

Who knows? I am just pleased that it is still a pharmacy. I have another photo to post soon that shows that a shoe store 100 years ago is still a shoe store now.
