Just thought I would congratulate you all on getting the word around so well , TA is awash with posts now that relate in some way to the new forum I am in no doubt that many more will follow across soon, especially seeing that "a dark embrace's" thread is still being allowed to run. Certain priorities are obviously more important than others, to some.

That is great news! For a while we were "talking to ourselves" ! So do feel free to pass the word, send PM to others posters, "le bouche à oreille" as we said in French. One of the fun feature in here is the direct chat that you can find on the main page, just below the forums entry. A bientôt. Luc.

Yes! Hi , all! I am a new 'un who learned of this site at TA. Yes, there were references to this "other forum" on the TA sites and that any such threads referencing the "other forum" were deleted and of course that piqued my curiousity! There was talk about where was IrishRovr in one thread and from what I gathered there was a mention of the "other forum" and viola..that site vanished! The currently ongoing "Dark Embrace" thread still lingers (perhaps TA is less monitored over the weekend?) and it , as mentioned above, has a reference to this site! This is wonderful to find this site and find some of my favorite posters here! I still linger on TA , but as others have mentioned....same questions so oft..but I enjoy some of the personalities and sometimes the conversations gets interesting , I continued going there. It is frustrating though to have TA curtailing any conversation that they deem not to their liking. It appears this is a good bunch here and we can really just discuss all things Paris and such!

While I don't approve of censorship for no good reason, I don't think that frustration with "dumb" questions is a reason to totally abandon TA. I do remember what it was like when everything was new to me, and for someone going the first (and perhaps only) time, or who does not expect to be able to go back for many years because it's just about literally "the trip of a lifetime" I can understand not wanting to miss something wonderful just because they had no idea (hence the intinerary questions over and over).
Also, it's quite normal for them to be a bit intimidated the first time there. I have some patience with that (although it may wear thin) just because I remember quite clearly my first trip (around 1990, by myself, in a flat on place St Andre des Arts) when I had to lecture myself to go out and find food -- mainly by realizing that I was there for a week before my return ticket date, and if I didn't manage to figure out how to buy food I was going to starve! So I tried, and learned many things (like people actually are very kind many times -- like when I bought produce in a supermarket and did not catch on about putting stickers with the weight/price onto the plastic bag for the clerk, who had to go and do it herself but was very nice about it).
I don't know why TA seems threatened (as it does seem to be) or why it makes the choices it does, but perhaps with the two forums working in tandem we can "have it all"?

berkeleytrav - I agree that it is very unkind to look down one's nose at people who ask "firsttimer"-questions and who may feel a bit intimidated by all those wellworn loudmouth Parisveterans. And I certainly hope that this new forum also will attract firsttimers - who search for and hope to find answers here that can take them just a little further off the beaten track.

Yes, I agree actually...as much as we do see the same question over and over...one has to recall they are first timers. We all were first timers at one point and might have asked such questions! What troubles me is some of TA's editing/canceling of threads that I found interesting and informative.

Guess what folks? A Dark Embraces post remains on TA whilst the post on the plea for help to find Madeleine McCann has been removed! I am rapidly losing faith, is all I can say!

Geez, I need to go find this "Dark Embraces" thread that you're all talking about. I don't linger long on TA these days. Not nearly like I used to anyway. Can you imagine being so straight and narrow to delete the Madeleine post?? Wouldn't you think that anyone would want to do whatever it took to help in that sort of thing??!! Sistereurope how did the horseback riding trip go? Are you walkin' funny? And you're right, sometimes I felt like I was talking to myself. So happy for all the new company!

Andi, I saw that they removed that post, and I was rather heartbroken. Is the person in charge over there just heartless? Truffaut said she is not the kindest gal in the world. And you're right, why is it that the Emo post is still up, as stupid as it is, and something that could actually do good in this world had to be taken down?

Just CRAZY!! That's why I'm SO glad everyone has found us over here (welcome Cybee, Shoesy, Les...it's so great to "see" everyone) I look forward to hearing many insider tips for Paris while I dream of my next trip. Oh, and happyG...the big D was wonderful, y'all. Had a meal there that rivals the best I had in Paris. And no saddle-sore!

I am not sure if the search for Madeleine can make a difference at this late time. I think that she is dead by now - poor, poor girl. In Denmark alone the police have registered that there are about 8,000 hits on child porn sites - and NOT by accident, we are talking people who deliberately search for them. I cannot understand what goes on in the head of these persons.
Nevertheless, I just posted this reply to the insane emo-thread. That will make the TA nannies shut it down in a nanno-sec.
>>If any of you should be getting a bit bored of threads such as this and might be looking for an alternative, feel free to visit a new place where all sort of Paris topics can be discussed in a relaxed, cheerful atmosphere: ourparis.blogspot.com Also some of you may wonder where some of the TA "oldies" have gone to - they are there. (No, I am not a shareholder nor a commercial agent) <<

I'm curious as to whether TA people detect the off-topic chatter on their own, or do they depend on forum posters to do the snitching?

I have now reported this Dark Embrace-phoney-16 year old to TA as "inappropriate post2 - on grounds on deliberately trying to waster other members' time. SHOESY - hop into the chatroom !

Hi Everyone,
I'm so glad to find this forum! I am a constant lurker on TA and only post occasionally. What a pleasure to come here and find so many familiar names. Thanks to berkeleytraveller for directing me here! When there was a post yesterday about Le Coupe Chou, I immediately thought of Truffaut. It's great to know I can still read his distinctive point of view as well as those of all of you.

Aude, yes, I recall you were also notified personally by Berkeley Travelers too! Good you did that, Berkeley! Anyway, Aude, welcome aboard! (People from TA are slowly becoming aware of this "other" forum and it is fun to see this forum grow! Slowly discreet (or not so discreet) TA posts are (until removed) alerting TA'ers who are ready for an alternative Paris site)
