Holger, I often wondered what the rationale was behind all of those places at airports that wrap saranwrap-like plastic around luggage. Now I know what that's all about!

Now that you mention it I was wondering about the plastic wrapped luggage too. What is TSA wasnt to look inside the bag?

The saran wrap stuff has been around as long as I can remember -- it was originally an anti-theft/anti-pilfer measure, but if it stops bbs, then even better.
If you have your bag wrapped coming/going to the US, though, I'm fairly certain TSA will cut it off.

Ouiparis, Oh, so sorry to read your horrific tale! That is just the sort of thing to send me into a tizzy just worrying about and now I am feeling fearful about my next trip (I do look for cleanliness on customer reviews, but on the reviews for the Dauphine Studio , they say it is clean...I guess TA or other neutral review places are best to check!)(oh, a review talking about the bbs is still on the front page! YES!)! But it is true, one can't let such fears impede one's joy of travel! (but I do tend to get a bit overly paranoid about such things..such as lice (is there lice on that theater chair?)(my mother told me a tale how there used to be lice on the seats of trains)!! Well, good to be forewarned and know to take steps such as to look for bb evidence (who wants to think of such things while on vacay?) and when unpacking at home to take special precautions! Here you had such a great deal on your studio only to have to spend all that money later and not to mention worry/mental anguish! Well, at least you were able to enjoy your trip whilst there and yes, no one is immune from such things so not to feel shame at all! Best wishes with your nerves getting over this and moving on! An unfortunate blip....but likely one you won't encounter again!

Thanks for sharing this, OuiParis. I didn't really know anything about bedbugs but this sounds like a complete nightmare for you. You have done so well in getting rid of them and keeping such a positive attitude but how awful to have to go through all that. Laura x

The studio owner is now posting on TA about this. Apparently he is pleased by the free advertising this has brought him. What a jerk.

Ouiparis -
Kudos for dealing with this dreadful challenge head on and for sharing your experience online. I've learned a lot from reading your comments and the comments of others.

I've read the thread on TA . The nerve that this guy has !!! And he even speaks about "reciprocal responsabilities" ! He clearly has no intention of giving you or Bicycleduo any refund . Try to work hand-in-hand with him/her when contacting Beau-Paris . And to answer UrbanNYC, NO it is not reasonable or foreseable to encounter bedbugs in Paris . I don't know specifically about rental appts, but bedbugs are highly unusual in France, as I wrote earlier in this thread, I even thought that there weren't any here . The guy is legally responsible for renting you an unsuitable place . It is not "the people who brought the bedbugs" who should "refund the others" . He should refund you and after that he can choose/try to go after the ones who brought the bedbugs . He is responsible because you signed the contract with him . Had you signed with an agency, you should have gone after the agency .

Suzanne, thanks for the heads up. I've just read Giancarlo's postings on TA. Very fascinating read indeed. Jo, thank you for your comments - it's nice to know that my experience will increase some people's awareness of this problem. Anne, thanks for your feedback. I'll keep everyone posted on further developments.

Just added my two cents worth on TA. Guy may be a doctor but he is a rather poor landlord. Just think of how many renters might have left his places and carried bedbugs to hotels and other apartments without knowing this. Now he proposes to spray people's luggage as a way of what? Preventing new infestations to his places, or preventing their carrying bbs elsewhere? has he ever heard of allergies to chemicals? Yuck!

THat is quite a post on TA. I can't honestly imagine he thinks tat will in any way be good for business. Certainly the refund that ouiparis deserves is a pittance compared to what he will lose now in future rentals. What a foolish, foolish man.
Oui.....good for you to stick by your guns. Keep us posted!
