Thank you so much everyone. I have been in tears on and off the last several days. Even my mom was in tears and she was not overly fond of him due to the fur and drool. He was a one of a kind dog and a best friend. I will miss him more than I can express. Thank you for your outpouring of sympathy, I really appreciate it.

Willow - When you're in Paris and having a good time, I'm certain that your precious Tarzan will be smiling down at you from Doggy Heaven.

What a beautiful dog! As a fellow animal lover I can imagine how you must be feeling, but you have a lot of happy memories. Time is a great healer, it's a truism but it's true.

I'm so glad you have so many wonderful photos! One of my niece's friends mad her a lovely little album of Burke photos that I always enjoy looking through. And I have my own favorite photos. I grew up with cats and have lovely memories of them..still have dreams involving them...the last one died in '93...he was 18 and a half, the other back in '73, she was 13! But they are still in my dreams!

Willow, I just saw this thread. I am so vry sorry for your great loss, it actually took my breath away when you posted poor Tarzan passed,, I mean, your first post said he was ill, and then you mentioned the flood, and I just expected the next post to say he was better!! What a horrible sadness for you.
Important to remember one thing,, the most important thing. Everyday that Tarzan lived,, ( with you) he lived secure in the love you had for him.. and that is ALL any doggie wants,, so he was truly a "lucky dog" .. and you were his best friend too..
My deepest condolences.. dogs are specail folks.

Willow - This is a photo of my "brother" Pepper, the sweet doggy I grew up with. He died at the age of 12 when I was away at college. That was in 1968, but to this day my sisters and I have never forgotten how much joy he brought to our family.

oh willow, i am so sad & heartbroken for you. we lost our cat syncros in march and it still hurts sometimes... they are one of the family and bring so much to us. i'm sure you have many good memories of him to comfort you. ((hugs))
sorry you had to deal with the storm flood. we got water in our basement that weekend too. what a pain. just "toe deep" but it was constant water moving for 4 days... the water found every little foundation crack we have. luckily our basement isn't finished and we only lost a couple of boxes. hope you're all cleaned up there.

I'll add my condolences. A pet becomes a member of the family, so I understand your woe.

I am so sorry to hear all this. I too had not been around much, and saw your thread today when I logged on. I had to stop reading the responses because my eyes were filled with tears and couldn't read. It really hit home as we have began to have concerns about our 12 yr old Golden, and I just made a vet appt for her.
I do hope you have a wonderful trip. I know for myself, a change of pace always does me a world of good, especially when things have been tough.

Thanks again everyone. All my friends both online and here in person have been so helpful and thoughtful.
I still miss the big beast everyday, when I look up on the porch and see he isn't there blocking the door as he would...it's sad. i keep wanting to take him on a walk but he isn't there.
I did a volunteer event this past Saturday, a combination of Chicago Animal Care and Control and the Chicago Wolves. We brought several dogs to the game and looked for homes for them. It helped my soul heal a bit to help these dogs find their forever home.
It's a wonderful event.

Willow, I'm catching up after being away.
I'm so sorry that you've lost your lovely Tarzan. I immediately thought of the Rainbow Bridge and I'm glad that someone posted it. He was such a beautiful dog and I know how much you loved him and miss him.
