I've had the rue Charlot apt. on my short list for some time. We like the area, good transportation, Enfant Rouge market , one of our favorite restaurants, Le Pamphlet are all nearby. The Little green square is a pleasant spot. I think Gitte may have a description of the area in one of her reports.

My B&B for the Get-together was located on 63 rue Charlot (will post a report later) . A lovely, very quiet street, and the intersection with rue de Bretagne is indeed Marché des Enfants Rouges, plus a charcuterie, a fromager, a coffee/tea shop, a few cafés of course ... A really pleasant place to live .

Darn, the Charlot apartment is not available either. The one from Paris Best Lodge is, however, and he will even give us a 50 euro discount since we rented from him last year. This may be the one we lean towards.

Hi Jo, Here's a link to a very cool apartment - I'm sorry that it isn't in your (definitely not mine) price range but it is certainly fun to look at and dream about - maybe when I win the lottery!! It's large enough that several of us ladies traveling solo could rent it together - wouldn't that be great fun! www.holidays-france-rentals.com/apartments/view-apartment.php?id=57

Thanks Judy, it really does look very nice and I love that location. I'll have to find out if the security deposit has to be paid in cash or if they would take a credit card imprint or uncashed cheque and only use it if they have to (I hate having cash tied up for nothing ~ must be the investment advisor in me!!)
I'll look into it today.

:-/Hi Jo.....I have got a headache now from looking for an apartment.... I find one but I always think I may be able to do better, afraid of missing something. I like the Paris best lodge apartment, Napoleon, also the sister apartment La Bourg Tiberg with it's little balcony. It is is your comfort zone as you know the agency and a 50 euro discount...great. Sandra.....WOW. I'm off to buy my lottery ticket today. Welcome Judy.. to the forum and the apartment hunt! denise love from england

Looks really great, I'm adding it to my list too. I like that it is priced in dollars, though our Brits might not

:)Hi, I know this is in the 7th (actually a very good locaton which i pesonnally love) but this particular apartment is lovely and very good value at 650 euros per week. www.allure-apart.com/montparnasse_en.htmlmodify. Sorry this link takes you to the montparnasse apratment. Cick on home and the tour eiffel heart to view the apartment in the 7th. I have had this on file for a while (came recommended from a friend on TA) and I love playing the Frank Sinatra music and taking the video tours. Go back to the home page Click on the Video Cameras to take the tours...or the camera for photos and music...it's fun. I think the montparnasse apartment s to die for!. Not sure about the location. One of these days I will check it out. Anyone familiar with it? Enjoy! Denise Love from england

Just wanted to thank everyone for their imput, I now have lots of other places in mind for next time, we'll just try to book a little earlier! Jo

Denise,
I really like that apartment in Montparnasse - especially the panoramic view - wonderful daytime or nighttime. It would be a little easier on the pocketbook than the one for which I posted a link- as I mentioned, I'm saving that one for when I win the lottery - and you are all invited to come and have dinner with me on the terrace!!! Doesn't hurt to dream I guess.

The apartment in the 16th that Sandra pointed out is amazing and we may just splurge on our once-in-a-lifetime trip to Paris. I wonder if it is too far away from the "action." Gitte's pictures from this neighborhood are fantastic and we like something quiet, but Kenny is a little concerned about its location. We love gardens and parks, archictecture, music and people-watching. We will be wandering mostly. Our other alternative would be Rose apartment on the Ile St. Louis. Compare & contrast these two areas, please? Thank you! Laurel

I'm not seeing an address for the apartment in the 16th (it's gorgeous!), but it's probably a lot further from the "action" than the Rose apartment is. Ile St. Louis is said to be nice and quiet at night, but you'd have the advantage of being close to all the other things you list that are important to you. We've stayed in the 15th right on the Seine several times, and it's pretty far out from anything one could call "action". You are right tho, Gitte's pictures from the 16th are quite appealing! Tough choice.

We love gardens and parks, archictecture, music and people-watching. We will be wandering mostly. Laurel Laurel - for lovely cafés, houses, parcs and peoplewatching you will definitely like the area in the 17th arr. around Square des Batignolles. It is a very nice lively "authentic" neighbourhood, away from the buscrowds. I suggest you look at Truffaut's apt. www.rentalapartmentparis.com/And ín my experience you NEVER need to worry about being "too far away" from anything in Paris. As long as you have a good boulangerie for the morning bread and pastries, a metro station or busline close by, plus a supermarket around the corner - you'll be fine. It is the ambiance of your local neighbourhood which makes all the difference, IMO. The 16th arr. has a slightly reserved air to it, because wealthy Parisians are not really your bear-hugging-buddy types, and that affects also the shop assistants and waiters, IMO - who tend to become a bit snobbish by having such posh customers. I prefer "down-to-earth" neighbourhoods, with ordinary, unpretentious locals living in it. What people mostly mean by "we are worried about being too far away" - is that they seem to think that camping smack in the middle of the tourists on Place du Parvis Notre Dame (or worse: on Champs Elysées !) would the ultimate happiness. I think not BTW, the north end of the 3rd arr. is extremely cozy too, the "Temple" and "Charlot" quartiers.

Thanks, Annette & Gitte. Snooty folks are not what we like to deal with, especially on vacation!
Glad I have a lot more time to spend in the sweet agony of these decisions.
