Just decided an hour ago to go to Paris in Nov and I need an inexpensive, no, make that cheap, apt!
I originally planned to go in Sept with a friend, and therefore started the, Who will be in Paris in Sept?, thread, but the US$ kept tumbling and my friend could no longer afford the trip. So we booked a trip to San Miquel de Allende, Mexico instead. Well wouldn't you know it - Delta called a week ago and said they are discontinuing that flight. I took it as a sign from above that we were meant to go to Paris but I had to convince my friend of that!
She can do this trip if we are very frugal. I will probably pay for 2/3 of the apt cost so I am looking for something that is not more than E100 per night and we will be there about 10 days.
I haven't even looked through this entire thread yet, shame on me! I was just so excited that she said Yes!
I know you will have some great suggestions, any arrondissement is fine with us. Thanks!!
p.s. I guess this means I better hurry up and finish my trip report for my Loire valley trip in May!

:)Hi Darcy....we are renting from centreparis when we go on the 13th July (have I mentioned it? ;D) www.centreparis.com/location-paris/studio-aboukir-4/fiche-17.htmlYou can't get more cheap than that. it is costing only 60 euros per night, an optional 25euro cleaning fee and NO security deposit! They have apartments on lots of areas including gittes beloved 18th. This studio and agency has come highly recommended by other people I have spoken to on TA and so far my dealings with David have been very amicable and efficient. The apartment on rue Tiquetone also has been recommended to me. Obviously I will report back as soon as I land back in England or sooner if I can. Great to here you are planning a trip. Have fun! Denise love from England

Darcy, do you know your exact dates? The reason I ask is that the apartment I'm renting in Nov, through Vacation In Paris, is a really great studio on r. St. Jacques in the 5th. It is (I think) incredibly inexpensive at $120 per night. You can have a look here: vacationinparis.com/apts/id_100.htmI am renting it from 11/22 through Dec 1st. If your dates are before that, it may be available. And if your dates coincide with mine, all the better...you can meet all us forum members who will be there during the American Thanksgiving week for a drink

Great news Darcy! I agree with happy...have a look at Vacation in Paris. They deal in dollars so they are cheaper for us because of the lousy exchange rate. I would have used them but I wasn't thrilled with their selection in the 18th, where we want to stay this trip. But I know that many people, including our happy, have been, well, happy with them.

Well, the obvious solution (and with the nicest possible owner ) is to take our own dear Luc's apartment, if available: 610 € per week + 50€ for the cleaning. Click LUCKYLUCsis, aren't you talking a bit nonsense about the dollar/euro thing now ? What should prevent the agencies from setting the rates at Paris market level - no matter in what currency the price is given ? Darcy: I'd also take a look at Paristay. They appear very reliable, have very nice photos and very informative website, where you can see at once: floor, elevator, internet, washer, etc. Click PARISTAYTry sorting their list by price and you'll find some very attractive offers, IMO. ps. Apart from Luc's little hide-out perhaps, I would not choose a studio for 2 grown-ups who are not going to share the same bed. Wouldn't it be nicer to sleep in separate rooms ?

Gitte, not nonsense at all. The euro has been erratic, mostly in an upward trajectory, for the past year or so. The prices haven't risen at all at VIP since last year. The studio I rent is the same price now as it was last year. $120USD
And, of course, I'd always rather have my own bedroom. Hell, I'd rather be staying at the Ritz...but Darcy did say it must be a budget trip. So, if it means going or not going to Paris, I'd toss a coin for the bed and the loser sleeps on the daybed. Not such a great sacrifice for a trip to Paris is it??

No nonsense Gitte...as a former economist I have to disagree with you. An apartment that costs €100 per night would have cost us $126 last year...now that same apartment would be $156. So if VIP hasn't raised rates, it is much cheaper.

This may not be the prettiest place, but I loved the location! Not to mention, it is quite inexpensive! www.vrbo.com/161489The only problem for some people will be the stairs..the last flight up is killer. I stayed there on my first trip (Aug/Sept 07) and will be staying there for my New Years Trip.

Wow, willow..that is very reasonable for the area. Although I suppose they get you to pay with that last flight of stairs

It is a very good price, and the owner is really nice. I love the neighborhood, close to everything, good restaurants (Les Philosophes, Le Cou de Feu ,L'As , and the gelato place) fun bars, boutiques....yep I loved it!
The building itself is really cool, and he owns a few other larger apartments in it.
I think that studio is also being redone to look more like his family apartment.

babywillow, you forget to mention that nasty, murderous climb up to the 4th floor !! You have young sporty legs, but how about us aunties ?? Here's another one, out in hip and lively Charonne in the 11th arrondissment. As you can see the apartment offers 2 single beds in the bedroom + there is a living room with a nice sofa, a small desk and a table. PLUS you'll get internet, lift, washing machine and separate WC. PLUS you will be living on the 3rd floor right above a bakery ! Now how yum-yum is THAT !!?? Only 589 € per week. Belongs to "ParisAddress" which is also a very well-reputed agency. Click here Rue de Charonne 92

I have only used VIP for apartments and so far so good. They have some good deals if you check the specials and promotions section. The apartment Denise is staying in looks good too. I can't wait to hear her report.

;D
I have to agree that a studio with on bed could be a problem but Willow's does have two. But I really like the one Gitte posted as it has the lift and along with the two beds , a separate sitting room. It also seems to have some design charm. The 11th is apparently very hip, at least parts of it. We are putting granddaughter and her boy friend there next March in a studio ( Paris Garret} up 5 or 6 flights of stairs but 300 euros for a week and well recommended on Slow Travel. Owned by Happy in Paris aka Dave.
But for us older folks, the stairs could be difficult and I would vote for the lift.
Incidentally we have been to San Miguel and enjoyed it but the trip was horrendous from here to there and back. Actually took longer than going to Paris. And, there is just no comparison. Not to me even with the miserable dollar to euro exchange rate.

Darcy - What fabulous news that you've decided to go to Paris in November! (I have an image of you smiling in such a way that your cheekbones are even more gorgeous than usual. ;D) As for an apt., I have no doubt that all the apt.-obsessed experts here will find the perfect place for you and your friend. Enjoy your planning !!!

Darcy...what great news. I am not at all sorry that Delta cancelled the flight to San Muguel (and I know you really aren't either). You have gotten so many great suggestions here for cheap apartments, and I am quickly making notes myself for my next trip.
Willow....I love the way the website describes the spiral staircase as "charming." "Deadly" is more like it, huh?
Denise's apratment looks to be in a great location, and I love that Gitte's is above a patisserie. How convenient!
Have a great time. I am sure we will be hearing more about your plans - 10 days in Paris = heaven!

Thanks for all your great suggestions, I knew I could count on you! Denise - great price! Happy - cute apt! 2 flights of stairs might not be too bad - dates are not confirmed but looking at arriving 7 Nov and leaving 17 Nov Gitte - luckyluc's apt, if available, would be very nice - PARISTAY has a great search function, unfortunately when you add E100 commission and 18% additional fee, their prices change drastically Willow - if I were your age, I would book that apt, but since I'm not, I'll leave it for you to enjoy Gitte - how did you know I wanted an apt above a patisserie?? ;D - their calendar shows it's completely booked from 1 Sept through 1 Jan, but I've sent an email in case that's a mistake Holger - I've spent a week in San Miguel and Guanajuato and really like both cities. The connection from where I live in NC was easy and not long, until they discontinued the flight! I'm glad I went when I did. Sandy - I've definitely not given up on BA! What is the best month to visit, considering weather and tourists? I'll be there, sometime! (since this is definitely 'off topic', PM me if you like, thanks) ttyl, I'm off to continue my search.......

Darcy - how great to do this on the spur of the moment! Have you checked out Vacation in Paris for reasonably priced places? Most of theirs are in great locations, although the least expensive ones are a bit short on charming decor, generally speaking. I was in #56 for our recent visit - there is a daybed in the living room, which isn't a great thing for two people who aren't sharing a bed (and the bed, by the way, was the most comfortable I've found in just about any apartment I've rented). The good part, however, was that it had 1.5 bathrooms (a separate wc within the bedroom), which is very unusual. It was right off rue de Grenelle, on the ET end.

Gitte - I received a reply to my email about the apt at 92 rue de Charonne and it's booked from 1 Sept through 1 Jan by one person. I wish I were that person!
