Hi ---
Is 75Euro expensive for a shuttle to my hotel from CDG?
Or shall I just catch a cab.
In the interest of time, I've already decided against the RER....
Thanks for your input....... A.

A cab would be a little cheaper (if you're not going into town during really bad traffic).

This is the airport transportation service that I use. They are very dependable. They will be there as you exit, your name on a sign..will take your luggage and the car nearby..you are off to your destination. They keep track of arrivals/delays. I think it is only 55 euros each way. I will use them again in Sept/Oct www.shuttle-inter.com/homepage.htm

If you're willing to spend 75E on a shuttle, go with a cab. It will likely be less expensive than that, even at peak times. Do make sure that you go with a cab that has the Taxi Parisien sign on the top of the vehicle. They will be directly outside the terminal door. You can't miss them.
Any cabbie who approaches you with a "great deal" is a rogue driver and should be avoided at all cost.

Hi- thought I would add my two cents on this one...
Last year we had paid for a shuttle through AAA prior to our trip. They never showed up at the airport, and when we called them, we were told, "Sorry-take a cab". My travel agent then had to battle to get our money refunded.
Maybe we were lucky, but the cab ended up being no problem. The driver spoke no English, and we spoke very little French. We got to where we needed to go for less than 50 euros.
I plan to take a cab again on this trip.

Yup, whether those shuttles show up seems to be a roll of the dice. I've never chanced it, and don't suppose I will. Especially since now I'm a devoted RER fan .

For that price, I would just take a cab - as others have said, no problem to find it. If you have any doubts about giving the address in French, just write it down (I always did that, right from the start, so there would be no confusion - mostly on my part, of course!)

Hello, well what should I do,, I mean, I usaully take the RER into Paris, but, this time I am arriving with my 12 yr old daughter, after travelling for over 20 hrs( we don't live on the mainland so we have to travel to nearest international airport ) and I am thinking the RER might be a bit much for her when she will undoubtly be tired.
Taxi is next choice, but, since I arrive around 2:30 pm I am wondering if I will hit rush hour in Paris ( since I imagine to be entering Paris around 3-3:30 pm) which would up the taxi cost. The shuttle Gracejoan suggested seems like it would be a better deal( although I have never taken a shuttle and admit to being wary of them)
Question , am I likely to hit Paris rush hour? I live in a Capital City , so rush hour here is definately anytime after 3 or 3:30 as government workers usaully work 7-3 or 8-4.

Which metro (RER) station would you be arriving at? That may make a difference to me, I think. If it was Chatelet or one of the really big stops, I think I'd get a taxi, no matter the time.
I can't help you with the rush hour question though; someone will come along who'll know.

Joan,
The service GraceJoan uses is great and very reliable - they meet you inside (after you get out of the customs area) and whisk you and your luggage to where the car is. After 20 hours travelling, it will be a relaxing way to take you to your hotel or apartment. I think your daughter will be happy with it too. You will arrive in Paris more relaxed. The charge is 55 euros each way. I believe they give discounts to repeat customers.
Last November, my husband and I took a cab after almost not getting our bags (it is the tail end of the Air France strike) and we ran into traffic getting into the city. Our taxi fare came up to a liitle over 70 euros (ouch). Normally around 40-45......
Just my two cents worth. You will ultimately choose which is most comfortable for you and your daughter. Just think how mch fun you will have in Paris when you get there!

Seems to me at 3:30 the rush would be out of Paris rather than into.

The airport service that I use is great...wouldn't do it any other way.
If interested, the website is in earlier post. Reserve online. They will get right back with your confirmation.
They keep track of the flights for delays, etc. They are there with your name on the sign....
Yes, to the discount. My fall reservations have been made and they gave me a 5 euro discount each way for being a repeat customer!
I did call them the day before my departure from Paris just to re-confirm my early morning pickup....he was right there.
There are many different ways of doing it. I happen to like this way. The flight is so miserable that I deserve the best treatment upon arrival..that's the way I look at it!!

Joan, 3-3:30 pm is definetly NOT the rush hour in France, except maybe on Fridays when people tend to leave office earlier . And as Demarais said, "rush would be out of Paris rather than into" .

:)OK, Gracejoan, you have made a very convincing case for this company!
It is actually much cheaper than the transfer I paid for last year that didn't even show up. And the website says you don't even have to pay these people ahead of time?
When I mentioned this to my husband, he really likes the idea of the transfer service. The negotiations with the cab driver sort of freak him out a bit (he doesn't trust my French!)
We're going to give this a try! Thanks, as always, for your good suggestions!

goldenmama,
You will like the service. You pay the driver. They are working on credit card use. My drivers have spoken English.
You will receive a prompt e-mail confirmation. I would e-mail them a couple days before leaving here and call them the day before you depart Paris. That is what I do, anyway.
I have my reservations for Sept/Oct.
They are reliable. They will keep track of your flights for delays upon arrival...
a bientot........
Joan
