Baby shower? Is it raining babies now? or is this some sort of new baptism ritual, where you put babies under the shower? ;D ;D Denise Love from England.

We're back! We were the last ones to arrive. Denise, are you serious? What do the English call parties for moms-to-be (oops, mums-to-be)? Do brides not get bridal showers in England? Thanks for that link. The Eiffel view and Montparnasse units made by jaw drop! The Eiffel view unit would've been perfect. Alas, they are partially booked for our timeframe. Demarais and Gracejoan, great minds think alike - you both had the same Eiffel Tour view apartment saved from VRBO. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it is available for our dates. Demairas, all of your other choices (except for Monceau) are booked too. I loved the Ile St. Louis unit! Gitte, where do you find that stuff (Stress Reduction Kit)? Priceless. ;D

Baby showers are excuses to buy gifts for the baby before he/she is born. Then after the baby is born, he gets more gifts. ;D

Thanks Chouchou . We don't offer gifts for babies before they are born, even if I reckon that this may be sometimes quite useful for the future parents . I guess that this is because pre-birth presents used to be considered as bringing bad luck to the future baby at times when death at birth were quite high . As if people were defying fate and so fate would take its revenge . After a baby is born there is no party either, people just visit the parents when they feel like it and offer their gifts for the baby .

After a baby is born there is no party either, people just visit the parents when they feel like it and offer their gifts for the baby . After the baby is born, the next celebration is usually a christening or baptism. After the religious ceremony, the parents host a party for guests...more presents! At least, this is how my family and friends do it. We're Catholics and non-practicing Catholics.

hhhhmmmmmmm, ladies....... high tea and babyshowers. Are we perhaps digressing just a wee bit from the topic ? And giving gifts to an unborn baby is DEFINITELY no-do !! It is SO much bad luck !!

Ah, but christening is yet another thing : baby will get presents for after his birth and then other presents for his christening, especially since babies tend to get christened at an older age these days .

Yes Gitte, we are surely digressing from the topic here . But then this this is not useless chat either, this is sociologic talk about differences in traditions in Europe vs. USA .

Yes, Gitte, you're right! So as of right now, I am leaning heavily on #5. Gitte, the apartments on parisstay.com were definitely of the type of decor and style that we prefer. Hopefully, I'll be hearing from some of them soon. I found a tiny unit on Ile de la Cite that goes for 700 euro, www.beau-paris.com/apartment-rentals/html_pages/pid47_english.html. What do you think?

Sorry! Here's another one. It's in the 15th and has a view of Tour Montparnasse. www.vrbo.com/171989It is 50m2 (biggest so far!) and also 650 euro. Let's call this one #7. The Ile de la Cite unit is #6. Anyway, #7 has an elevator and is on the 10th floor. The only thing I know about the 15th is that is has a doggie bakery there, Mon Bon Chien.

:)Good morning Oui...and everyone. I like the Ille le Cite studio, the situation is the best and although it's small you are only there for a few days and so that shouldn't be a problem. As you ARE only there a few days perhaps location is also crucial as you wont want to spend alot of time travelling around. As to baby showers, I agree, giving presents before the baby is actually born is considered bad luck in England. We also don't have bridal showers but we DO have hen parties where the bride gets presents and everyone usually goes away for the weekend and behaves VERY badly. These are becoming the scourge of Europe thanks to cheap flights to places like Spain,Dublin,Prague and Riga Have a good day ;D ;D Denise love from England

What dates are you looking at? You might take a look at Michele's site. She has some places that might fit your needs... www.homerentalconnections.com/Michele and Gail are good friends....all worked together at some time. She even has a couple places also on Gail's site. Also some London spots, where she lives.. Joan

Hey oui,
Don't feel bad...we've all been through the apartment search frenzy! I know that I've spent MANY hours analyzing apartment rental sites...so much so that it does border on an obsession. I'm with Gitte though - I believe that there are worse addictions!
Anyway, my strategy is to try to narrow down an area first. The only time I didn't do that was when I took my family - we needed a large apartment and I didn't want to spend a fortune. I ended up renting an apartment in the 15th from Yetunde (who, by the way, is great to deal with. And the apartment was nicer than the photos!)
I liked the 15th - we were on the rue du Commerce...lots of shops, a market nearby, and it was out of the tourist zone but close to several metro lines. Good Luck!

Denise, good point on being centrally located. And an exalt to you, not for the picture, but the caption, "YOU KNOW HOW WE DO!"
Sis, thanks for the feedback on Yetunde. It's nice to know that so many people here can vouch for her service.
Busy day at trabajo today so talk to you all later!

This is a very nice place and from a very nice person. She is in the US, so you can call her if you want to. By talking with her, you might evern get a better rate!! It is in an excellent location... www.vrbo.com/102516Enjoy..... If I knew what dates you need, it would be easier..........

I think we are going about this the wrong way. I also know the apartment frenzy and I ended up with my head in a spin. How do others prioritise apartment searches? For me I think it is. First availability obviously 1. budget 2. location, central, near a metro. 3. Size and number of beds, as we require two.(Grndpa snores!) 4.what floor and if there is an elevator if above the first floor. 5.size.Square footage. 6.equipment i.e dishwasher, 4ring hob, shower, (I'm not bothered about wi-fi, TV, phone, washer). 7 aesthetics 8. streetside or courtyard. Is it quiet 9.are there positive reviews? 9 are my enquires answered promptly. So... just to add more to the mix, here is another on my list that is available in september. vacation.lodgis.com/en/paris/description/2067767-rue-buci-apartment/Denise Love from England

I just got an email regarding this listing, www.vrbo.com/78870 . It's a little out of the way in the 15th, but wow, what a great deal - for 408 euro, 45 sq. meters, and new furniture. It seems almost too good to be true. #2 with the loft is off the table now. The owner just emailed me. Gracejoan, I did check out homerentalconnections, but none of the ones that fit our budget are available.
