Which museums or monuments, if any, have you not had the pleasure of visiting?

I still haven't been to the top of the Arc de Triumphe, strolled along the Canal St. Martin, taken a tour of the Opera Garnier, visited the Cluny, the Jacquemart-André or the Marmottan, wandered the Parc Bagatelle or the Bois de Boulogne, nor seen the Petit or Grand Trianons at Versailles. Also I've got half a dozen markets remaining on my "must do" list. I'll cross off a few of these in October, but the list will only grow...

I have not been through the gardens at Versailles (it was pouring rain the only time I was there). I have not been to the Orangerie since it finally reopened (went back once or twice a year for a number of years, and then when it was finally open the lines were so long I have not gotten to it yet). Have not yet been to Canal St Martin, or been to the Opera Garnier (for a production, or just for a tour). And many, many more! Well, what can I say - more reasons to return!

This trip we will positively visit La Defense, we've put it off for ages. Also do the Canal St Martin boat trip, my feet won't hold out for walking it. Then I do want to see the new development at quai de Austerlitz, the design center which just opened is supposed to be really fantastic. www.designbuild-network.com/projects/docks-de-paris/ And I'm hoping there is an exhibit open at Maison Rouge that we'll enjoy. I also want to go to a club Metropole meeting on a Thus. ..if I don't forget!

Interesting link Demarais!
Nothing "major" on my list...one of the pleasures of having been a number of times...you can meander or cafe sit without feeling you should be doing something! Not that most of our group doesn't enjoy those moments!
I do need to get back to Versailles...other day trips...back to the Arc for the new museum space, that Salamander..back to the Pere LaChaise and other cemeteries...and of course so many , bistros, cafes, markets, restaurants! And more of the "hidden gems", places, "villages"

:oOught-oh! I can't believe I've never heard of Canal St. Martin, and it sounds as if I need to put it on my list! And my list is getting mighty long, may I say...
I want to get to the Cluny Museum this time, as well as the Carnavalet. Also St. Denis, as we ran out of time (and energy) for that on the last trip.

Travelling with two small children means most of our must-dos are parks. Of those we haven't been to before, we plan to see Bois de Boulogne, Bois de Vincennes, Parc Monceau, Parc Montsouris, Parc George Brassens, Parc Andre Citroen and probably many more on our up-coming two week trip at the end of June.

Thanks for your message, Luc. We actually stayed in the 19th on our last trip to Paris so spent quite a bit of time at Buttes Chaumont. It is lovely and we may well go back this year, even though we will be staying Malakoff this time. You are right, it is well worth adding to anyone's must-do list.

I've never been in Versailles palace though I've been round the gardens twice. I haven't been in the opera or the Sainte Chapelle but I'm hoping to do the latter this time.

Everything! The first and only trip we have been able to make feels like it was so quick (and I got sick and there was a 2 days strike) so I feel like I need to see it all again, which makes it difficult when trying to decide what to see next - the things I have already glimpsed or the things that I am yet to see at all.....

We've always been too early or too late in the season for Giverny. But having just watched The Impressionists and read the Jane Roe book that someone here recommended, It is a must do this trip. We arrive on the 30th of Oct. so we will just make it for the last day of the season on the 31st! It means putting off the Canal St Martin boat tour but we can metro or bus and walk along some of it, if my poor old feet hold out!

I've always loved Monet -- and eagerly looked forward to our visit a few years ago.
It's not so much a showcase for his works, as much as it is being able to see the inspiration for it. There are views around the pond where you say "oh, that's Water Lilies, or look, there's the Chinese Bridge".
And the gift shop is in the building that was his workshop. His presence there is still powerfully evident, even with the throngs of visitors.

While we may get to some of the smaller museums in our two weeks next March, we are really just planning not to plan this trip. Rather to explore the different quartiers in areas like the 9th and the 11th and get to markets, some more passages and essentially just "hang out."
So the must do lists of the past are themselves things of the past. The exceptions are certain restaurants and hopefully a performance of anything at Opera Garnier.

I have been to Paris several times and my lists of TO DO's tend to get longer and longer every year, although you'd think they would grow shorter and shorter. There must be some inherent magic working in Paris , so that whenever you have ticked off something as DONE!, then at least two or three new exciting "must-do-can't-live-without" secrets to explore creep into your list, when you are not looking ! This is a summary of the TO DO's for Aug/Sept.: L'Orangerie Tour Jean Sans Peur Hotel du Soubise Square Barye L'As du Falafel Musée Picasso Arts et Metiers Baba au rhum from Stohrer Musée de la Poupée Jardin Tino Rossi Jardin Alpin (again) in Jardin des Plantes Grande Galerie de l'Évolution in Jardin des Plantes Galerie de Minéralogie et de Géologie (again) in Jardin des Plantes click to seeFrazier from Gérard Mulot All sorts from Pierre Hermé Église St. Francois Xavier Place Gaillon + Drouant Grand Palais Jardin de la Vallée Suisse Église Notre Dame de la Consolation Nissim de Camondo Jaquemart-André Lunch at Printemps roof terrace Maxim's Art Nouveau museum Tons of chocolate shops, e.g. À l'Étoile d'Or Opéra Garnier Musée de l'Éventail St. Vincent-de-Paul Quartier Sainte-Marthe Exploring 12.arrondissement Palais de la Porte Dorée Château de la Reine Blanche Exploring Butte aux Cailles (again) Musée du Montparnasse, 21 Impasse du Maine Cité Universitaire Parc Montsouris and surroundings (again) Orthodox church, St.Séraphin de Sarov Exploring 15.arrondissement Marmottan Musée Baccarat Musée Galliera Serres d'Auteuil Exploring Auteuil and Passy (for Hector Guimard buildings, among other things) Villa des Ternes/ Rue Bayen Sumptuous villas around Parc Monceau Finding building with ceramics decorations, 32 Rue Edmond Flachat Marché Poteau Tons of restaurants, but only so few meals........
