Holger, if you're going to Prague, I really would suggest a short side trip to Karlovy Vary. The scenery is stunning and dinner at Charles X is nearly worth the trip. And if concentration camps are your thing, I found Theresienstadt to be far more compelling than Auschwitz.

Thanks all. Will start to check things out on-line. I also have an old list from about five years ago somewhere and will post the names when I locate it.
Truffaut, should this be moved to a different site since we aren't talking about Freance here. ;D

holger - see to it that you DO visit Karlsstejn. You can go by local train from Prague or of course on a tour. If you have ever seen Mont St.Michel from a distance, the sight of Karlsstejn is almost equally as compelling (right word ?) . Look: karlstejn.turistik.cz/de/it is the only castle/burg/fortress which has never been taken over from the outside (or so I have been told) - when you see it you will understand why. Mala Strana - yes, I remember that. And also be sure to visit the area behind the castle - I mean it's called Loreta something ? Tereza - I see now that it is a monastery but the quartier was very beautiful and very quiet. www.loreta.cz/en/index.htmLook at these pictures - I MUST go down there next spring I think - if it's not too rainy. www.visitprague.cz/main.php3?lng=en&s1=general&s2=history

Tereza, thank you. It was the Esplanade. Holger, go to google and click image search and the the phrase "hotel esplanade prague". I believe it might be right up your alley. It is very near Wenceslas Square (pretty much like being smack dab in the middle of the Louvre courtyard when it comes to being close to the sights).

Wenceslas Square is a little too busy and noisy for my taste - trams, busses and cars going by - and even a McDo !!! Not exactly Louvre courtyard, I'd say.

Let´s take it one by one:
Gitte: Loreta Square, exactly, I wish you could see it during Christmas, it is our favourite spot for 24.December walk with my family.
Rainy? Well it depends, this year we are boiling alive whole May, today it´s 30 degrees Celsius in the shadow - terrible when you have to sit at work!
Truff: you are welcome. I must say that I don´t recommend Wenceslav Square too. I don´t like just crossing it on my way somewhere, tooooo busy. As a tourist I would like to see it and then leave it.

Truffaut, when I leave our Paris, I will google the Esplanade. But all you Prague experts, please look at my list--I still find the Green Lobster interesting also one called Santini Residence. By the way should we expect hot weather in July-August? My husband, Dane as he is loathes the heat and thus I have to sacrifice charm for air-conditioning to keep him happy

After 5 visits to Paris, the area I know best in France is the Dordogne.
That's followed by 3 different barge trips.
I know Amsterdam, Cologne, Vienna and Budapest.
After this summer included will be Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Yes, Prague is already onn our list for '09
I can contribute photography from any of those places.
BTW- GitteK and Shoesy - I think I have an avatar on leash and will let it go as soon as I can figure out where we are going.

Hi Holger,
My favorite villages /cities in the Dordogne are Les Ezies, Racomador, Domme and Sarlat. There is Lascaux II, castles, gardens and let's not forget shopping.
Let me know your specific interests and I will provide you with names and details.
I think you may well enjoy the Dordogne as much as I did.
Randy

Randi, We are staying in Sarlat and have reserved at several Caves like Pech Merle and Font de Gaume. Will also see Lascaux II. Will probably eat lunch near the caves but dinner in Sarlat. But we will have a car so are open to any and all suggestions. I love Fois Gras, Truffle, Goose, Duck and Lamb and tend to prefer the classic and or rgional ways of cooking these. Not fond of nouvelle cuisine. Merci, Holger
