I'll do it this weekend. I recall sharp white cheddar, smoked cheddar, toasted pecans, truffle oil and then all the usual ingredients. I just might try it this weekend and throw in a little lobster.

Hey Annette, a friend of mine, a young bride, was doing her first Thanksgiving dinner and also used Ina's turkey recipe. Didn't it call for White Truffle Butter to be slathered on the meat, under the skin? Anyhow, that's what she did. Everyone said it was the best turkey they'd ever eaten.

Yes Happy, same recipe! I wouldn't have a clue where to find white truffle butter around here, so I made my own. I'm glad your friend had the same good results I did. It really was a delicious turkey....I've been nibbling on the leftovers today

For what I paid for my bottle, it had better be real! Good to know we need to watch out for fakes now tho.

Jody, I buy lots of "ingredients" in London/Paris/Italy when I'm traveling. As you say, it costs less, plus don't you find the quality much better compared to domestic stuff? Not just truffle products either; most everything seems of higher quality in Europe. Did I tell you about the time I smuggled a fresh porcini home taped to the inside of my unders???

Didn't they get squashed?

No, it didn't get squashed. Okay, here are all the gory details.
I was in Lucca, Italy 3 or 4 years ago. We had rented a small villa there and, on the last night, decided to cook in. We were driving through the countryside and saw fresh porcinis being sold from the back of a truck. They were GORGEOUS and right then I decided that the menu HAD to include risotto with fresh porcini mushrooms. So I bought a large one. It still had he dirt on it. It was a thing of beauty!
On the way home, I thought it prudent to make a dry run to the airport, as we had to be there fairly early the next morning. Suffice it to say that it was a good thing we made that practice run. We got completely lost and never got home until almost 10pm. Too late to cook dinner, especially risotto which takes a good bit of time. So now I had a fresh porcini and nothing to do with it. So I wrapped the mushroom in a napkin and taped it to the inside of my bloomers (on the side for all you people whose minds are in the gutter). I then put on a very flowy sort of shirt for the trip home. Once safely on the airplane, I pulled it out and stashed it in my carry-on. And voila! We had fresh porcini risotto the next night ;D (It was delish!)
