The Hebrew greeting on that site does not mean "Merry Christmas". It translates as "Happy Holidays. Happy New Year."

Randy - Of course we all hope for peace, but unfortunately I live in a region where it seems the least possible.

Our Christmas decoration consists of a 12 FT peace sign made of colored Christmas lights that we display on our front lawn. (My rocket scientist husband made a huge frame out of metal tubing and chicken wire. We attached the lights to the chicken wire and stood the frame upright, up so that the peace sign seems to be "floating in the air").
I too hope that we achieve it someday...I want to think that, even though last year someone deliberately cut the wires. But we will keep putting it up until it's no longer necessary. In this season of hope, I choose to believe that we WILL get there in my lifetime...
Happy Holidays to all.

Sister, I can imagine the beauty of your sign from up here. Do not let the wires cutters stop you, speak your piece Sis, speak your peace.
Bonne fêtes de fin d'année.

Joyeux Noël et Bonne Année à tous Speaking about New Year, I finally gave up waiting for Happy's sweetheart invitation and accepted an invitation from friends in their Provence holiday home for a few days . Of course I will brood over our missed wild party at the Elysée, at least at the beginning of the New Year evening, but then the men have planned to open two bottles of Chateau Margaux 1989 for the dinner, and even if I am not a big fan of Bordeaux, this should help soothen my mood considerably ;D

Anne - That sounds like a fine substitute for the OTHER party. However, if things do work out for Happy, you can always go back to plan A and invite your friends to the palace too. ;D

Yep Chouchou, except that we will have to take all the kids with . And what I remember of Gitte's plans for the evening make me think that this Elysée party should be "adults only" ;D

Anne, those plans sound fabulous...I'd be more than happy to join you in a toast (I LOVE a good Bordeaux)
Of course, I'm still holding our hope for a Christmas miracle and planning for the big party at the "palace"....but just as a back up plan, we decided to hold a dinner feast in our Paris apartment that night. So, whoever happens to be in Paris over NYE, you're all invited!!!!!

Sister, I love this idea of Sarko in the part of the "Christmas miracle" . So on Christmas eve, someone rings at Happy's door and she opens the door and ... here is Sarko with a large red ribbon around the neck and a Santa cap and his usual large twisting grin, having crossed the Atlantic in order to declare his love to our (venal ;D) Happy on such a special night . So cool !...
