Anne..feel free to put on some music..your writing style and depth of vocabulary are far superior to some "native English" speakers I know!! And jsmia...I love your version of the Nutcracker Score...what's the "waltz of the Flowers??? And back to rock..when all the Christmas silly music get too much I love the , I think, Joni Mitchell's "The River".?

I love hearing everyone's current music preferences! I have a range of artists whom I enjoy...including Wilco (note, SE! (My daughter has had me join her at several fun, small concerts of current indies such as the Decembrists, MWard (great!) and DeVotchka! (fun!)( That concert I was standing next to Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst... wondering who that familiar looking guy was). She expands my taste to current artists...whilst I still enjoy prior favs from my student days, etc.. I also enjoy Piaf for my taste of French!

Yes, Cybee - it's nice that our kids help keep us up to date (and I like to think cool but I'm probably kidding myself )! I like Bright Eyes and the Decemberists, too. Oh, and geordy - Joni Mitchell's "River" is SO beautiful...I love that song. She has such an incredible voice.

Sister, Did you watch Ally McBeale? Robert Downey Jr. sang it at the piano at the end of one of their Christmas episodes when everyone was miserable and it was so poignant. And I do love the classic Christmas Carols sung by the 3 Tenors.

I guess I missed that one geordy - Robert Downey Jr doing Joni? Must have been the episode with the dancing baby ;D
One of my favorite xmas specials was David Bowie singing "Little Drummer Boy" with Bing Crosby. That was quite a sight!

My sister and I attended a concert recently. It was the Eagles and Dixie Chicks. It made me feel old for some reason.

Suzanne, I attended the Eagles concert..a couple (?) years ago with hubby. Lots of great tunes. Actually, "Hotel California" is one of my favs...so haunting in a way.

Re: Our Nutcracker Everything after Get the BonBons downstairs RIGHT NOW! is danced by the Company so I guess Waltz of the Flowers would be either Time to Break up the "Party Girls are Way Cooler than Cooks" Fight or I Can't Believe You Lambs Have to Use the Restroom Again depending on the year. We actually have a lovely Nutcracker. It's been adapted to a South Louisiana theme set in a plantation home and is really beautiful. The Nutcracker, A Tale from the Bayou has been named one of the top ten regional versions in the US. My Liz danced Clara. Jennifer

The Eagles were great. I'm nuetral about the Dixie Chicks. I guess it has been awhile since I attended a rock concert. the Rolling Stones in the 70's. So it was weird to see 50 yr olds dancing in the aisles.

Our musical tastes vary greatly from one end of the spectrum to the other. From Guns'n'Roses, Black Sabbeth, Led Zeppelin to The Clash, Sex Pistols, The Stranglers to The Beatles, Elvis, Motown, Phil spector..........Greenday, Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs, Fratellis, Starsailor, U2..........classical.... Chopin, Mozart, Vivaldi, Catherine Jenkins, or dance music like Cascada, DJ Sammy, Eric Prydz. It really does change depending on mood, what we listen to during the day. One thing we both have in common is that we don't do Country and Western or Jazz (no offence to those who do) Recommended album of the Month for me FRATELLIS!!!! (not sure if this band has made it across the pond yet though?)

Aside from classical ballet music, I adore all the music from "Phantom of the Opera", and I could listen to it any time of the day. In addition, I've been a fan of ABBA songs for 3 decades. I saw the musical "Mama Mia" twice, and both times I danced in my seat at the end of the show.

Oh, yes, Shoesy and Jennifer! I also love the music of "Phantom of the Opera" and Abba ("Mama Mia!"). I have also seen both productions and they were both great! In February, I am going to Phantom again (with excellent seats) as I had poor seats last time I went (years ago). Thus I have started to listen to my Phantom cd again...and it is such gorgeous music!

Then would the three of you please take turns having my daughter come stay with you for a while? She listens to the Phantom on her IPod morning, noon and night (except when she's in school, I hope! She's even trying to talk her friends into putting on a production of the Phantom...now where this is going to take place, I have no idea. But I'll let you all know so that you can buy some tickets ;D

Ha, SE! Well, your daughter must be quite the creative type and that is a good thing! (wanting to put up a production! ) I don't recall, did you and your fam go to the Opera Garnier when in France? Now that would make you all totally cool in her eyes(especially to see a production there) (speaking of being cool! ha!)!!

No, we missed going to the opera...my daughter didn't become Phantom obsessed until after we returned from our trip. But I'm sure that she'll accompany me on some future trip and it will be at the top of the list. She's playing the Phantom in her version - she said of it was good enought for Shakespeare to have boys play girls, then it's ok for her to be the Phantom

You're so lucky! All my daughter does is make fun of me. When we were car-pooling during her junior high (middle school) days she commanded that I was under no circumstances to play:
Showtunes Lynard Skynard, Led Zeppelin or Styx Disney soundtracks
in front of her friends. I was also under orders to refrain from any sort of singing and dancing in public.
Fortunately she's all grown up now and treats me like a lovable, if slightly odd and very slow child. Scott still doesn't like it when I sing and dance in public. In his defense I am tone-deaf, lack any sort of rhythm and am extremely uncoordinated. Sam doesn't care what I do. He's too busy singing The Teddy Bear's Picnic to the dog.

Yeah, these things never make sense. I keep trying to drag her to rock concerts and she wants nothing but to see Broadway shows! ;D

Wow..there seems to be quite a variety of music on here!
I am staying away from Christmas music for several more weeks even though our Light station has been play it since Nov.1.
Right my ipod is playing some new and old music:
Rooney, MC Solaar , Plain White T's, Christophe Mae, Cascada, Christophe Wilhem, Edith Piaf, Polish Disco Polo, JayZ, Tatu, In-Grid, Lady Pank (Polish 80s music).
I love it all!

Often at work I get the web broadcast from KFOG (San Francisco), which is a very eclectic mix of old and new rock (without commercials, since it's on the web). Sometimes I listen to Radio France on the web, because we discovered it in Paris (105 FM in Paris, other frequencies elsewhere in France) and fell in love with the crazy mix of music (like a giant iPod shuffle long before anyone had heard of iPod - you really never know what you will hear next ). At home we usually have the iPod on shuffle (probably 400 CDs on it by now, of all different types of music). Love it, it's like a radio station that never plays anything you don't like and never has commercials. ;D
