Well, I can definitely see the correlation between being pet lovers and Paris lovers. You all seem like such caring people when it comes to your doggies or kitties. I think it's really important to have a good solution for your pets when you travel. The reason we never got a dog is the fact that I take very long vacations to the States every summer, and I would have a problem concerning a canine pet. The cats that we feed here (quite a few of them) are all outdoor cats, and our neighbor takes over for us when we're away. Two of our cats, Muffy and Cinnamon, are very pampered and they enjoy special privileges. They come into our house to eat and sleep (usually in the winter), and they get taken to my nephew's house when we're away. He is a vet and has quite a few cats of his own. Our cats don't like being there, but eventually adjust to the situation. They could actually manage on their own outdoors if they had to, but Cinnamon is such a bully, and if he were outside during feeding time, all the other poor kitties would disappear and not eat at all. He's quite a little terrorist as far as the other cats are concerned, so finding a solution for Cinnamon has become a must, and since we take him to my nephew's house, we take spoiled Muffy as well. BTW, Cinnamon is not a bully at my nephew's house because there he understands that it's not his territory.

Missed this one as well Becky wrote: <<Holger, in that case what you want is a Siberian husky! Personality like a cat, although much too smart! >> This reminds me of a dog training customer who bought a Husky from a farm in the Keilder area of Northumberland. (Europe's largest man made lake and forest where Sled racing is very popular). Her major problem? Her dog pulled on the lead ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D The solution to kenneling in the UK is the passport scheme, and combine both our pleasures On the Pont Alexandre with the girls thinking that it was about time to go for a Danish (pastry of course) ;D

Ian (and others) - have you seen the "betty and rita go to paris" series of notecards (with pictures of two labs at various easily recognized locations in Paris, e.g., sitting on the striped pillars at the Palais Royal)? If not, it's worth looking for it (they are published in California, so don't know if they are widely available, but the pictures are great - five in the set, total of 20 cards). These appear to be based on or taken from a book of the same name, although I haven't seen the book: www.chroniclebooks.com/site/catalog/index.php?main_page=pubs_product_book_info&products_id=1155&store= I'm guessing that if the book is of interest, it's probably available through Amazon, although the publisher is not offering it currently. Two of my favorite betty and rita cards (but I'm afraid that the very best, of the two dogs on the lawn having a "picnic" of bones, with the ET in the background, is long gone):

Muffya,
I certainly under the $500 kennel bill. We have Meg, a 9 pound, 9 year old female scarlet colored Dauschund, stay with our vet.
When we go to pick her up after our Annual September visit to Paris, the human at the desk tells us that Meg has them all trained as to which one is to walk her each day.
What gets me, she pulls that stuff at home too !

Meg sounds like a delightful little primadonna. What a charmer she must be!

Becky,
Are the two dogs in the front of the Palais Royal pillars of the community ?

The most cat - like dog is a pekingese. I had one for 17 years and she was not a thing like Oscar ( cute one to the left). I have had cats when I was young and Lulu my Peke was very much like them. Sit on her own , No slobbering etc, did her own thing and fetching was "beneath her". LOL Now, Gitte - what do you think of people who keep snakes as pets? I think they are NUTS!!!!!!!!!

lady - snakes as pets is perverse. period.
I think the most cat-like dogs are terriers - stubborn as hell and they do NEVER come when called for. When I was a teenager/young girl my parents had a Scottish terrier called "Dukie" - and he sure behaved like one little duke !
I've exalted you so Oscar won't feel sad and neglected.........

Yes Randy the dogs ( Betty and Rita ) are at the Palais , how smart you are!
I actuaully just saw the book" Betty and Rita go to Paris" yesterday at a Winners store, I just sat there and looked through the whole book( although hardcover it is not very large, perhaps 8 or 10 inches squared) , the photos of course feature two of my favorite things, doggies and Paris !

Gitte, I do not agree about terriers as I had a cairn terrier for years and they are too jumpy and attention seeking like ALL terriers. They are what is known as "goers" , terriers never stop!! Pekes don't start to begin with! LOL

Yes, terriers are very "jumpy", but I think that's so cute. I used to have a little "brother", a wire-haired fox terrier named Pepper, and he was definitely full of pep....at least when he was young. Later on he became a big cuddly "rug", but he was always very affectionate at every stage of his life.

well, o.k. ....... I can see what you mean and agree: cats are only attention seeking when the food bowl is empty..... and only jumpy when you have just put on your new expensive nylons....

This thread is great. What a bunch of pet-lovers we all are. I just got back from a weekend away and my independent, single-minded, adorable, cat, B, won't leave my side. Most days she turns her nose up at me. Only when I've left her does she pine for my company. She's one snotty little diva...
