I saw Kathleen Battle at the Kennedy Center about 12 years ago and thought it was awful until the end when she did some a cappella thing about having music in her head. THAT blew me away. But the rest of the concert was just ho hum. In a related story....Zoe Caldwell as Maria Callas in Masterclass was one of the most superb plays I've ever seen...and the young Audra McDonald just blew me away. She, of course, has gone on to be a superstar herself...but perhaps learned a little something from her debut, and has never quite reached diva status.

Arrow, I'd agree with your assessment of Battle. I heard her the year of her Met debut and she was wonderful. But the voice just got really static after a few years, and she became boring!
