With water that is!!!!! ;D It rained, then it rained some more and more!! I thought after the steampipe explosion cancellation the Gods would smile upon us....no such luck! Now I know why I do not take jeans to Paris...because once they get wet, they stay wet..and get heavy!!! But as I was walking to meet Shoesy(walking because the sneaky weather decided to look like it was going to clear right before I left) I said "Just pretend you are in Paris and smiled"..right before I got spashed from both directions standing on the divide on Park Ave!! But the important thing is I Met Shoesy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We gabbed, and shopped(Manhattan is now low on shoes , and walked and ate and got wet!! It was kind of like on the board and in the chat room, we'd start talking about one thing and tangent off all over the place!! I don't think anyone who saw or heard us would believe we'd just "met"! And yes the woman has a ballet figure!! We joked that the weather would clear as soon as she got on her train....that is EXACTLY what happened. I see some sun shining on the trees outside my window! Now I've got to go continue drying off..I'll let Shoesy pick up the story so to speak. Any ears burning out there today?? I wonder how/if my title translates!

Translates very well...but I was expecting a meal report of some kind...so where did you eat? I gather not sitting at a table in the warm sunshine sipping your Champers.

Geordy did not exaggerate about the weather. But I had one advantage over her since rain at this time of the year doesn't exist in Israel so for me at was a bit of a change. In any case, we both joked about being glad that we hadn't fussed about our hair in the morning because that certainly would have been a waste of time. One more thing concerning the rain, while we were in Bloomingdales, we got cute bags for our umbrellas, and I commented that they kinda looked like condoms. ;D Anyway, Geordy is a fantastic companion, and we had so much fun talking about Paris and the forum. We had an amazing lunch at a darling little French place on Lexington Avenue, and we both ordered delicious salads. Mine had grilled chicken, and hers had chicken liver, which I porbably would have ordered too if I didn't have high cholesterol. I was so lucky to have Geordy with me while I shopped for shoes and an evening bag for my daughter's wedding. Geordy, since I know you're reading this, I'd like you to know that the bag is a PERFECT match for the shoes that I'm going to wear to the wedding. I don't know if any of you will have the opportunity to meet this lovely New Yorker, but if you do, consider yourself extremely lucky.

Sounds like you both had fun despite the weather. That is terrific. But for your avid readers please fully describe ALL PURCHASES in great detail. Just stating bags and shoes does not meet the needs of your hungry audience. We should have insisted you have someone take your pictures and had you post them. Geordy, if we meet in Paris--no jeans but we will carry umbrellas and wear raincoats so we will be guaranteed sun and warmth!

It's fun to hear that you two really hit it off and had so much fun together (why am I not surprised?! )

What a great time, on all bases! Glad to hear the meeting went off as planned, and we are all envious (especially about the shoe shopping!). NYC is a favorite shoe shopping venue for women everywhere (although not quite as favorite as Paris -- not only for the wonderful shoe selection in Paris, but because, well, it's PARIS!). Glad you had a good time!

Ha! I had to laugh at this thread's title! Shoesy and Geordy get shloshed! How could Shoesy lead Geordy so utterly astray!? Well, wish we had some of that rain here! We are struggling with dry hot temps of 103 degrees here! Anyway, I loved hearing all your news and what you ate (what was the name of the restaurant you ate at?). Shoesy, would you really have had the chicken liver salad but for cholesteral concerns? What shoes did you buy? I second Holger's request for DETAILS! WE love shopping (and all ) details! Fun to hear your chat was so easy to go off on tangents...just like here! I wonder what stores you went to! Well, so happy to hear of your grand get together!

See Geordy, you were thinking that you were doomed as far as your meeting with Shoesy was concerned, but you finally made it ! Shoesy, you had already told us about your dress, and now you tease us about the shoes and bag ... Now, you should send us a picture of the whole wedding lot : dress + shoes + bag + hat + necklace + anything else relevant . We would love you to wear it all for us, but if you feel too shy you can put it all nicely on a bed in order to take the picture . Then we will all give you our enlightened viewpoint as far as what could be improved, added or withdrawned, and so you'll be able to drop negligently on a conversation with the groom's mother that you got your wedding attire specially shaped and appraised by an international audience

I'll start out by saying that I am writing this at 3:30 A.M., since once again I'm awake while the rest of the house (even the dog)is asleep. I woke up a little while ago, and I felt too excited to fall asleep again........thinking about my hubby, son and his fiancee who are on their way to N.Y. and should be landing some time before 5:00 this morning. You asked about my purchases, so here goes. The 2 pairs of shoes are NOT wedding-related. However, the first pair is Paris-related, and you should know by now that that means a new pair of sneakers. ;D I actually bought them right before I met geordy. They're Nikes, and very bouncy, so I can imagine myself strolling around Paris in them. As for the other pair of shoes, they're from Nine West, and they're black patent leather, with a very small heal and an open toe. I was looking for something a little nicer than my everyday Aerosoles........something I could wear perhaps when I go out on Friday nights with my friends. They seem comfortable, but I have to check them out again because I don't trust my judgement from yesterday since my feet were a bit wet from the rain. ;D As for the evening bag, it's actually the 4th one I've purchased since I came to New York. The other 3, which I'm not satisfied with, will be returned within the next few days. I needed something to match my pewter wedding shoes. This latest bag is solid.....not soft.....and the latch has crystals, and so does each side of the handle where it touches the base of the bag. It's different from the other 3 bags that I've purchased, but I like it the best, and the color is a perfect match for my shoes. At first, I feared it would be too small for what I need, but then I put my glasses inside and saw that they actually fit inside. (I'll be reading something at the wedding....sort of a poem or rhyming speech......, so I definitely need to have my glasses with me.) So, those are my only purchases from yesterday, but we also stopped at CVS, where geordy showed me what those "blister thingies" ( remember on TA ?) look like. There are 2 kinds, depending on what part of your foot you need them for. Since my daughter will be going to Paris for her honeymoon, I wanted to buy her some, but first I want to ask her which part of her feet tend to get blisters.

Sounds like ou had loads of fun ladies! And with a french restaurant and shopping to cap it off, an ideal day! I also can't wait to hit the shops in NY - it will be my last stop before I head home, and since the weight allowance on the plane is loads more than we usually get, I plan to help the NY economy out big-time. Shoesy, it's so funny that you remembered the blister thingies. That was quite a thread, as I remember. I say buy them both, you never know where a rogue blister might decide to set up shop.
I am so tickled that you and geordy met and got along so famously. Not surprised, mind you...I think it's just great!

Cybee and all, The restaurant is called Mon Petite Cafe. Small, not fancy, reminds me of a tea salon type of place in Paris. It is near Bloomies and the Alliance Francais, lots of little shops, so you get a mixture of local and international shoppers as well as folks from the French Institute and neighborhood. Shoesy admired the wine list! I had a glass of Cote du Rhone with my salad, had to do something to counterbalance all those chicken livers and bacon!! The salads were quite filling so we passed on dessert. Had it been a typical July day I'm sure we would have found ice cream somewhere in our travels..but 68 degrees and pouring did not lend itself to that. I had in mind Central Park, and other outdoor activities. Unfortunately the Met Museum is closed on Mondays..but even if it were open the Roof Sculpture Garden ..a summer highlight..would not have been an option! So luckily we were able to get some of her shopping done! The bag is fabulous and will add to her Mother of the Bride ensemble! I hope some of you are fortunate enough to meet Shoesy in person someday.! Beside being the dynamic person she is(well she was born and raised just north of NYC )she takes well to being walked all over mid town in the poring rain! All joking aside..we got wet..but many of the communities here have had serious flooding problems too and certainly did not need more rain!

Geordy and Shoesy, Ah! That sounds like a perfect restaurant (and surrounding international flavored area!) for your get together! Truly sounds like you had a wonderful time together , and to me, even the rain sounds just fine (as another 103 degree type day here! Yikes! The BlackHills in South Dakota have been battling forest fires, with one perilously close to my brother in law's home in the pines!) (of course, one does not want too much rain ala parts of the UK!). Thanks for all the details! Loved hearing about your purchases too! Shoes to wear on Friday nights out with friends (and shoes for Paris too! Ooh la la! What color(s) o' Nikes?)! How fun! (and your purse, Shoesy, sounds perfect!)

Shoesy - you obviously had an excellent shopping guide in NYC! Congratulations on finding the "perfect purse" and of course, Paris shoes.

Becky, Shoesy is an accomplished shopper! As she said she had bought the sneakers at a store right by Grand Central before we even met. She had also walked by the bag store and checked it out. The store where she got the Friday night shoes just happened to be in the vicinity of Bloomies and the restaurant. We went back to the bag store and nixed the original bag she was considering. We were almost leaving when they came up with the winning bag! Today, by the way, the weather is lovely, sunny not too hot or humid. I ran errands and did laundry..rest of the week is hectic so..had to be done! But Mr. Shoesy and son and future daughter in law were arriving today so hopefully they can enjoy the nice weather! And it stays nice , or at least reasonable for the rest of their trip and the wedding!

Oh my goodness...I have been so out of the loop lately, as I am in my busy season here where I live - so I did not know about this wonderful union taking place between the two of you!!! I am so envious of both of you, as over these many months you are both people I feel I would love and enjoy in person as I do on the site!!! What fun!!!

Thanks Cybee! Yes, they have some big waves over on the Pacific side of Baja. We went there on Tuesday, to this town called Todos Santos. Here are my 2 kids having their very first swim in the Pacific ocean: And the sunsets aren't too shabby either: It's not Paris, but Mexico is definitely up near the top of my list as a great vacation spot...I am blessed I just downloaded this - the Mexican version of the sidewalk cafe ;D
