I just wanted to direct you to the thread called "The More the Merrier" started by Shoesy. I want to echo the sentiments that she mentioned in that thread, which was all about welcoming you to the fray. We had 37 visitors to this forum today! Those of us who found this site early and who post a lot have grown rather fond of each other, if I may speak for everyone.
But we really do NOT want this to be some kind of a private club with insider jokes and such. So please, don't be afraid to chime in. I am simply in awe of the knowledge that so many of our members posess...I have learned so much about Paris just in the few months I've been here. I know that it will make my next trip to Paris even better than the last.
So lurk if you want, but please DON'T be shy - if you want to ask a question, or share YOUR knowledge of Paris, please post. Because the only thing we require is that you care about "Our Paris" as much as we do!

Speaking of those 37 visitors to the forum, I've noticed that the the time when most people are online is always when I'm asleep. (We're 7 hours ahead of N.Y.) It gives me the feeling that I've missed out on some kind of party. One day I'm just going to have to plan to stay up all night so that I can join that party too. ;D

Hey Shoesy, I can relate as well -- I wake up about 6:00 (my time) and go on line after I collect a cup of coffee, and there's always been lots of activity while I was gently snoozing away. No good solution, but what would we ever have done before the internet made this possible? ;D

But on second thought, next month I'll be in New York.......... ;D

Yeah, Shoesy...we can have a virtual sleep-over! Sort of an online pajama party... (On second thought...most of us are over 50...I don't know about the rest of you, but the days when I could pull an all-nighter are loooong gone )

Except when you get to my exalted age, you wake so many times during the night that it is almost the "all nighters" I uused to have in college. Regression! But I do say welcome to the new members and guests, too.

As a fairly new member myself, I wonder if any others also feel that their time to participate is limited. My job (a passion, really) keeps me busy 24/7 including bouts of international travel. But I do love to take an occasional break and check in. I hope that's an okay way to participate.
I still haven't found time to report on my recent trip - but will one of these days! I like to refer to it as a Vegetarian Does Paris.
And Holger, I think we are about the same exhalted age - so know what you mean about the 'up all-nighters'!

jpcat...any way that works for you is an ok way to participate! My point in posting this is that (and I don't presume to speak for everyone) I THINK that most of us who have been around here for a while want to make sure that new members and guests feel comfortable posting...if and when they have the time and if and when they feel like it. If someone only wants to lurk, then that's ok too...but I for one just didn't want anyone to feel excluded by our often silly banter!

Also, most of us work...or SHOULD be ...so please come visit with us whenever you can. It's often a catch-as-catch-can environment. There is usually someone here to chat/kvetch/dream with though.

Jpcat! My daughter in particular will be delighted to learn from your adventures as a vegetarian in Paris! (she is a vegetarian too, or oft is). I like the term "exalted" age! That is excellent!

But we really do NOT want this to be some kind of a private club with insider jokes and such. This is my perspective and not that of anyone else, but this is exactly what it is.

Hi guest! Welcome to the forum! You can't imagine how exciting it is whenever we discover a new member! It's so much fun to get to know new people all the time. We're anxious to know all about you and learn about your trips to Paris, or if you haven't been there yet, you'll probably enjoy reading about our experiences. We can assure you that we consider everyone on the forum to be part of one big group. It's easy to get to know each other here because you're free to express yourself however you want, and we're all interested in hearing each other's comments and thoughts for the day. I suggest that you read the "Who's Who" thread on the general board, and we'd love if you could post there and tell us about yourself. That's up to you, of course. Anyway, once again, I'd like to say WELCOME!!!

Guest, I also will speak strictly from my perspective when I say keep in mind this site is in it's infancy. When I joined, in March, there were experts available, but no one was asking any questions. I suppose regular posters could just exchange pms, but I enjoy the exchanges of others. I think if you check back every month, you will be finding more and more people will come in and make use of the friendly expertise available.

Guest, I agree with Ray -- the section on "visitor questions" for instance has grown by leaps and bounds over the past few weeks, as members try to think of things that would be helpful (without many specific questions to answer). Please, do ask questions as they occur to you because there is a lot of talent to help answer anything you need to know.

Yep, we are an open and welcoming bunch and we would love to have you join in the discussion (or discussions, as there are MANY topics and threads here - and we welcome new ones).

Guest, Presumably, you joined our forum simply to create a disruption, considering that your first and only post was one of complaint. We are happy to have dissenting voices here, as long their intent is to contribute positively toward the development of this site. I shall take the liberty of disabling your account. If, indeed, you wish to participate on this forum, you are more than welcome to re-register under a more suitable user name than "guest".

Well said Truffaut...........this kind of thing will happen from time to time, odd balls who just want to throw a spanner in the works, who have way to much time on their hands. Genuine people who pay a visit will either say nothing at all or at least put in one question or hello. And to other newcomers.........it may look like a private club from the outside looking in, but once you say hello you will be wholeheartedly embraced and become every inch an equal family member.............because that is what we are like here! ;D

Anyone checking in here should understand that none of us knew each other two months ago. Maybe slightly from other forums, but definitely no more than a nodding acquaintance.
Please join in and see how friendly we are to newcomers!
