I'd like to share with you the wonderful few minutes I had a little while ago. I decided to phone Gitte and wish her a "bon voyage" in person, though, now that I think about it, a phone call isn't exactly in person - LOL. Anyway, I just couldn't let her go to Paris without saying a few words to her. Incidentally, our dear Gitte is definitely Danish, not an American in disguise. She has always had me a bit puzzled because of her too perfect English, and I never understood how someone who doesn't live in an English speaking country can speak English soooo beautifully...........including every possible slang word needed to submit a meaningful post on this forum. Well, my conclusion is that Gitte must be a language genius because her darling Danish accent proved that she is Danish. I really mean it.........Gitte speaks with the most delightful accent, which charmed me throughout our conversation. But once again, I must stress that her English was flawless!!! I know I won't be going to Paris for another year, but it felt so good speaking to someone who will be boarding a plane in just a number of hours.

You are crazy........... but yes, it was a delightful conversation. I hate Danish accent, it sounds so rural . But I don't get to speak much English as it is, so I don't get much training. I would never have thought that YOU sounded so "American" though ?? Guys, this here little balletdancing Shoesy sounds like a cattlerustling cowboy......... ;D yeeehaaa !!!!! ;D

That is so funny that you would post that comment, because I had just the same thought a few days ago! Gitte communicates in English better than I do, but it says right there that she's from Denmark. That's really impressive! And cowboy Shoesy! Yee-haw!

Roniece, there are no restrictions on the words used here, I am impressed by everyone who is multi-lingual and wish more effort was made in the UK to be the same, I think it is one area that we are really behind the times. I also think that it is lovely that real friendships are forming here........ ;D

Shoesy. how wonderful that you got to speak "in person" over the phone (LOL) to Gittek before her flight today!!! I have always wondered about GitteK's perfect English too! My other language is French and it is totally pathetique! How could GitteK write so well, I wondered, and not truly be American or English! It is interesting to know that she is not in fact English at all (hiding in Denmark!) but truly a Dane who speaks English with a Danish accent! Who knew! I would love to hear that accent! (and what about this cowboy accent you have, Shoesy! ha!). Yeehaaa! Boy Howdy, that must have been a humdinger of a phone calll! They say I have a Czech accent! One can not glean these things via e-words, it is clear!

O.K., everybody. I don't really sound like a cowboy. Why should I? I grew up in New York, so I guess I sound like a New Yorker. Perhaps Gitte heard something familiar in my accent and equated it with cowboys instead of ............let's say Elaine from "Seinfeld". ;D

Precisely, cybee. Sometimes foreigners have a hard time distinguishing accents. I've had Israelis ask me if I'm British -LOL. I definitely don't sound British. And let me repeat what I said before........Gitte's accent is priceless. Kinda makes me wish I were European.

Glad you rustled up some grub before you hit the sack last night , my precious Dane ..despite that awful cigar smoke that hightailed it your way! Well, best be moseying on, but BOY HOWDY...sure 'nuff glad you in Paris now and havin' a fine time! Yup, a mighty fine time by alls I can reckon! YEEHAA! I'se gonna saunter off into the sunset now.... with mah head plumb full of all your mighty fine adventures yet to come in Paris! HOOOODOGGIE!

Gitte,, you must be a linguistic master, you are able to speak, write and read three ( at least) languages,, and many of us struggle with one !
so nice of you to pop in,, I wish I was a multi millionaire( since a million dollars doesn't go very far now a day, I would need more then one million1 LOL) and we could all fly down for a visit,, it would be so fun to finance the first ever "Our Paris meet and greet" .
