Oh! Husband just reminded me of one other down side...the VAT. Couple that with the weak dollar and the Hermes scarf and Chanel bag that I had been dreaming of bringing home became a little out of reach for us at the time.

Oh, but Paris isn't for changing planes, it's for changing your outlook! For throwing open the windows and letting in... letting in la vie en rose.

Yes Gitte, that may help, but you have to get the scarf tying right in the first place and I SWEAR that there's a scarf tying gene. When we were in Paris my Italian friend tied my scarf and I looked SO European...until I went into a restaurant and took it off. Velreid can attest to the fact that try as I might, I could NOT get the same look when I re-tied it myself. I did excatly what she did, and it yet just didn't look quite as smashing as it did when she tied it...
