geordy...good luck! I was looking at flights in October ...couldn't find anything under $900 from Baltimore/Washington. Yikes!!!!
I have enough frequent flyer miles on American for a free off peak ticket to Europe...my husband, however, has been begging me to accompany him on one of his NASA sponsored trips to Japan...when I told him that I had enough miles to go to Europe for free, and that perhaps I could go to Paris to take French lessons in the fall (and what a wonderful 50th birthday gift that would be), he got a sad puppy dog look on his face and said "but you promised to come to Japan with me"... What's a girl to DO?! (Besides move to Europe so that we can get cheap tix like andi and Gitte!!!)

Gitte is merely doing the simple math - obviously CD/PR/VR isn't nearly old enough to have a daughter who will be 50 (and we've seen pictures of you both, don't forget ) so the only rational explanation is that she is the one who will (at some future, long deferred time) be turning 50 . . . .

Becky...please do not contribute to the swelling of CD/PR/VR's head!!! ;D
(but I do think that I'm going to have to figure out some way to get that woman back to Paris!!!)

Sis - no, the great part is that now that you've started this going, she is going to be the one dragging (as if!) you to Paris! ;D

OMG, Ladyjicky! That's very expensive. I guess that's what happens when your country is so far from Paris. We can't all be lucky like Gitte, who can pay for a flight with her pocket-money.

No, Gitte. Oscar doesn't look sad in that photo.....but if he did, it would only be because he knows that there are some non-doggy lovers, who don't appreciate how sweet he is. But of course that doesn't include you, Gitte, because you referred to him as "adorable", "charming" and "kissable".

That is why Aussie travellers go to the cheap hotels ! We also have to fly for 24 hours to get there! Its hell on the ankles let me tell you and poor old Oscar just knows he will Never get a treaty from the likes of Gucci or Poochie in Paris as I am too busy busking - mind you, I should get a little piano thingy and put Oscar in a bed like that old man I have seen in paris with his music box and put out a basket for money! LOL Not a good idea as what I make from you lot coming over and feeling sorry for me will go to the Goverment quarantine to get bloody Oscar back into the country! Its something like 4 months in "jail" for the old boy and I have to pay for the Vets and accomodation there ! Hell, I cannot win! LOL I am thinking of going to Paris this year with my Mother. We will be holding up a bank and a convenience store tonight. Don't tell anyone its us!

ladyjicky,, I knew Australians had to endure an incredibliy long flight, but I had no idea( which is rather naive of me I suppose) that they also have to pay more then twice what we do to get to Europe. \Shows true dedication to purpose!! Gitte I am still not over the 10 cent flights you can get, ,, ugh, you are too lucky( ok, so you must have been a very good person in a former life,LOL)

Joan I have to say , when people complain about the $$ I have to laugh - and we have just had a good exchange rate this last two years. A few years ago we got less than half a Aus dollar for a US dollar - now that was hard . At the moment its really "good" one US dollar = 88c Aus - little easier than the 50c mark its been for years.

I sort of know what you mean, for many many years the American dollar was anywhere from 25% to almost 40% more then ours, and since we live near the States, and we love to visit places like Disney and Hawaii ( ant others) it was always a case of 'just suck it up and figure on everything costing an arm and a leg more, LOL It is so nice to be about par with our neighbors, it makes online shopping worthwhile now, since before the exchange rate plus the shipping costs just made it ridiculus!

OK..so a little update on my potential trip. After figuring out that our busy seasons overlap, we came to the conclusion that the last week in December (After Christmas through New Year's) will suit us both!
Since she is in busy season now and I love planning, I've been looking at apartments and hotels. I loved the Marais area so my focus is there and in the 5th. We may just go back to the studio I stayed at over the summer, but I am leaving that up to my friend. I pretty much told her to make her own list of things to see and do, and I will be just happy being in Paris! (Though I will have a few must sees).
I am very excited about this trip! Even if it is eons away!

Willow, that's great! Just be sure you do all travel and all other possible expenses/charges one one airline mileage club, and you'll have the miles for a free ticket in no time (you'll get about 10,000 just for the ticket to/from Paris).

Joan, With the colds that are going around, I suggest you hit the champagne hard! And forget the cold remedies. Nothing puts a smile on your face like bubbles tickling your nose....... Susan

Well, I am also on the lookout for airfares to Paris in Nov/Dec this year.
I will have enough points to get me from Sydney to NYC (another city I want to revisit) and then from either Paris or London to home again, but I will need to pay for a one way ticket from NYC to either London or Paris.
If anyone sees any deals come up, it would be great if you could post them.
Thanks, Mez.
