Gitte you lucky lady. I am happy for you - I am always thrilled to know that some lucky person on this forum is planning their next trip. That way we get to enjoy it too ! I suppose we are all always planning that next trip, but yours has real dates attached to it. I would be tap dancing too.

Gitte - I almost wrote that I'm envious of you, but the truth is that I'm much too happy for you to be jealous.

Gitte, You lucky girl. I had waited for a NWA fare sale to book some business travel. It came up yesterday, and after I got that done, I took a quick check on Lincoln, Ne. to Paris for later this month and got $648.00 with all the taxes and fees. While that is a great price for me, unfortunately I have employee issues which will prevent me from sneaking away. So, I will have to depend on the rest of you to let me share your Paris adventures.

I'm GREEN, too, Gitte.
Holger, we were not able to upgrade to business, either way, but we did manage to get World Traveler Plus on the outbound leg. You might try going for that. It really is not uncomfortable . In fact, business out of Orlando was not that great. You are okay on an aisle seat but window and interior seats are blocked when the person beside or in back of you recline to flat position. Poor David couldn't get out of his seat at all for just about the whole flight. From here , BA is still using the old club world seats, maybe from PHL they have the new ones.
We are going in middle Feb and I had a hard time getting ANY seats, the planes are full of vacationing Brits, Easter travelers, and it's UK schoool holidays!
I probably should start looking for Paris seats now for Oct-Nov.

That is WONDERFUL Gitte!
For me now even if the fares were great it is the time issue, and S/O's time...too expensive for this "reduced circumstances" gal to do purely solo!
But I'll enjoy your trip...and the other members!

Well done Gitte, the price is excellent ! But we experienced some frustration last autumn, walking the rue Mouffetard while staying in a hotel, and so NO kitchen to keep and cook the amazing food on display .

;D
Demarais,
We are going Economy Plus so hope it will be a bit more comfortable. Not cheap and they will not assign seats in Plus till 24 hours pre flight. Seat guru indicates they are all OK so we are OK with that. Had thought of booking Maxjet but prefer flying from here in Philadelphia rather than having to get to and from NYC. That was actually lucky considering that MJ folded.

anne266 - I DO NOT COOK when I am on vacation Neither do I, Gitte, but I swear that watching the food in rue Mouffetard gave me pins and needles in my fingers . Not for sophisticated cooking though, I just wanted to prepare a simple meal like pâtés, seafood or fish, salads, cheese (the fromager at the lower end of the street - Androuet - is very famous), pastries . BTW, Etchegorry being a South-Western restaurant, it should be the perfect place for you to taste your first cassoulet .

Compared to regular World Traveler, the Plus is quite a bit more comfortable. David is 6'4" and even he said he was not uncomfortable. However he is one of those fortunates that fall asleep as soon as the plane takes off...then complains he hasn't slept a wink!

;D
The last two years we stayed in hotels and ate out. But especially the last trip, everytime we passed places with prepared or semi prepared foods, we both began to think of an apartment for the next trip.
In other places, this has allowed us to eat one meal in--often dinner or rather a light supper with pates and cheeses and have a big lunch out. Breakfast is also possible in an apartment with nice things from nearby bakeries.
Given the weak dollar, taking three meals out is less attractive, as well.
But I fully understand, the appeal of being in a hotel where someone else does the cleaning, changing of towels and bed linens.

Demarais, Don't you hate that?
The guy next to me coming back nodded off before takeoff. Woke for drinks and lunch. Nodded off again, woke, pulled out laptop ..did some work..wrote a bit in a notebook, used restroom, nodded off again!
Woke for most of snack..he missed the pocket pizza..but was up in time for Swiss ice cream and cafe/water. Nodded off again until we landed!
I ,who had gotten practically no sleep the night before..watched Ratatouille, read the magazines, ate everything, drank wine trying to sleep..no go!!

Wow Gitte - what a great thing to be able to do on impulse! And who cares whether the hotel is fancy, when it allows you to have an "extra" trip to Paris! Good work! ;D

Willow,
I do hope you manage to get to paris again this year.
I'm also trying to see how I can manage the trip - using frequent flyer points. The credit card idea is great, and that's how I'm planning to get to Paris in 08!

Gitte, I really hope you get to Petit Marguery. It was wonderful. The last time I ate there was admittedly last fall, but it is still under the same ownership so I can't imagine that it has gone downhill. And, if you enjoy them, do try the Grand Marnier souffle for dessert. It is their signature dessert and it's wonderful.
Btw, this is the resto that I recommended to Ina Garten at my now-famous meeting at Chez Dumonet. She told me it has been on their must-try list and asked me where it was located. I told her it is on Blvd Port Royale but that, after 3 Kirs, I couldn't possibly find it on my map.

This hotel looks very attractive. Will look forward to your review when you return. The picture of the batroom showed one that was enormous!

Gitte - I love the rue Daguerre! What a great location. I think that it's time you discovered the hidden charms of Montparnasse - I look forward to your review.
