Wauw, thank you so much everyone !!
>>>If your card is full while you are on your trip, you can also go to a photography shop, and ask them to copy the pictures from your camera to a CD, so you can delete them<<<
If I bring my own laptop to Paris, I wouldn't have to go to a photoshop, I think. Couldn't I just burn a CD with the pics on my own laptop, once I have copied them over from the camera ?

Once you have photos on your computer, you will probably want to put them into albums so you can share them with others, namely us!! There are several programs that do this. I've used shutterfly.com for years, it's free, and I really like it. The fact that I use it tells you that it is very easy.

Sure, if you have the technology with you (USB cord, or whatever) to get the photos from your camera to your computer, they can be put on a CD just like any other file. That's actually a good precaution in my view, because sometimes "things happen" with computers!

Gitte -
As I mentioned before, you have had a lot of good advice.
When I travel I carry and fill a lot of cards. my choices are: 1. to take the cards home and put them in my computer. 2. have CD's burned (could be a problem) 3. take a computer with me and download the images in my computer (risky + another bulky item). 4. Purchase a small storage device that I can download my images into.
I take 4 cards (2GB each) in a small shockproof and waterproof container. That's enough for me to take 2000 images. You could put a combination of 4 -1GB/512's and you have one VERY small addition and the safest way to store and carry your images.
Again, thats the way I do it, you will find your own way.

The one thing I wished I had got around to getting is a wide angle lense, I will certainly have one on the next trip!

Hi grunblack - I think a wide angle lens is essential when you travel, particularly when you go to an urban area. It helps you get all you want in the photograph without standing a great distance away. It also creates some interesting perspective shots. You might want to consider a zoom lens, say 24 - 200 or an 18-200. That way you have it all in one lens.

Hi Gitte -
I figured since member grunblack asked the question, although it should have been on the other thread, he wad entitled to an answer, hence I gave him one. I hope others will follow your instructions.

Hi Randy - very kind of you to do that (but, "he" is a "she"!)
