To get back to Gittek...Mummy is very British. All my BIL & SIL and my husband called their mother Mummy!
For layering there is nothing better than a pure silk camisole in chilly weather. If it warms up, you can go to the Ladies and take it off and stash it in our urse..weighs nothing but keeps you toasty warm!

Willow - I can't decide if I envy you more because you're going to Paris in a few days or because you're turning 22. For the life of me, I can't remember how it feels to be 22, but I CAN definitely remember how it feels to visit Paris for the first time.

Thank you Becky!
And Shoesy, I am definitely way more exited about Paris than being 22. All the birthdays between 21-30 are nothing, so 22 is only important because I get be a grown up and travel by myself!

Willow, my dear willow - of course you needn't be so excited about turning 22 because it's basically no different from being 21 or 23. But we much older women usually can't help wishing that we were still in our twenties, an age when gravity has not yet proven itself. ;D

Oh, to be 22 again! I was about the same age when I did my first solo overseas trip. You are going to have such a wonderful, wonderful time.
Have a great birthday and a fantastic trip.
(And as for the Mummy thing, we would also say Mummy if that's what you called your parent. I call mine Mum unless she does something to irritate me, in whichcse it's MOTHER!! - haha)

"all the birthdays between 21 and 30 are nothing"??!! Has anyone read Nora Ephron's "I Feel Bad About My Neck"? She writes, "Oh how I regret not having worn a bikini for the entire year I was twenty-six. If anyone young is reading this, go, right this minute, put on a bikini, and don't take if off until you're thirty-four" While I don't suggest that for your Paris wardrobe Willow...enjoy each and everyone of those birthdays!! And your time in Paris! Plus there is an OLD caberet song called 27 or I'm always 27, picking that as a perfect age for women. I heard Dixie Carter sing it at the Carlye several years ago.

Willow, if I'm not around later/tomorrow, let me get this out of the way NOW:
I hope you have the trip of your young lifetime. I hope you meet wonderful people, taste wonderful food, see wonderful sights and just generally get the "happy tingles" every day you're in Paris. Bon Voyage and a very Happy Birthday!

That just means that you're already a veteran traveler (plus, now you have room for the results of your shopping expeditions!)
