Since some of the restaurants we want to eat at are very popular, reservations are a must. We try to alternate so that we can go to places on the spur of the moment. Must admit this is going to be harder to do this year with all the interesting restaurants like Pomze that have been mentioned. But we still be there in high season. I guess October gets better. Then again there are restaurants here in Philadelphia that are small but super and for weekdays, at least two weeks is necessary. Weekends, it may be months.

I started packing. Not sure what to do. I think I can squeeze all of it in our kids old 19" bags...you know those really small rolling bags for young kids? Anyway, most everything will fit, then I can put that bag in my 22" so I have an extra to come home. I am hoping I can just carry on the 22" with the other inside...but I measured and if AF is picky, they will see it is 3cm too large (from their website dimensions).
Any guesses as to whether they would let 3cm slide or not?
I am struggling with shoes...know 1 pair I am definitely taking, but can't decided between 2 other pairs, what to take. I might even take them all and let my mom help me decide, lol!

Don't forget -- anything you wear on the plane does not have to be packed! So, if the shoes are ones you can bear wearing on the plane, there you go!

Well, I might look like a fool boarding the plane ;D We fly out of SFO where it will be roasting hot...and I will be wearing my jacket, lol!
I actually just called Nordstrom and had them put a shoe on hold for me. I will run there when they open tomorrow and get it. The Munro's fit me really well, so I will get the Jolie style (sort of tennis shoe) and that should work for Normandy without being bulky, so I can wear that on the plane. Keep your fingers crossed that this shoe is like all the other Munro's and fits me well!

My last trip we had ballet tickets one nite, circus tickets for Sunday afternooon, reservations for Fri. lunch, plans for the Sun nite Jim Haynes dinner, and reservations for the first nite dinner. That is alot for me! Granted the Haynes dinner could have been skipped(it wasn't) and the first nite res didn't pan out(the only reason we made it was because it was Valentine's Day and an unfamilar area so we didn't want to be wandering on a probably(and was) busy dinner night. The hotel and /or restaurant messed up the res so we wound up wandering(cold and rainy) but it worked out fine! But I agree, you can wind up working around your established plans abit too much instead of going with the lovely flow!! Good luck with the shoes....I'm considering a ballet flat type Ked to try out for my next rip!

Mtngrl -- definitely not "roasting hot" at SFO today (foggy, windy and chilly), so no worries about people looking at you oddly!

LOL!
Well, I was at the mall when Nordstrom opened this morning. Bought the Munro's I had on hold. I love the brand, they fit me well, and managed a 3 week Europe trip with 1 pair, so had confidence in these. Anyway, bought the Jolie shoe, which is like a sneaker, but not bulky. And not too old ladyish looking. VERY comfy...felt like I was wearing slippers!
So think I can get by with just this pair and my other that I had planned on.
Glad to know that it isn't too hot at SFO right now.
Most things are ready to go. We leave in the morning:) Can't wait!

Have a really great time! Don't worry about anything, it will all work out (and as soon as you go through security at the airport, you're on vacation and you will relaaaaaax, and enjoy it)! We can't wait until you get back and tell us all your impressions. Bon voyage!

Mtngrl; Becky and the others are right. Don't overpack. If you forget something, you can always buy it there and try to relax. My bit of advise; don't pack more than 2 pairs of shoes and the ones on your feet. They take up way too much room! s

Thanks:)
I rarely overpack, so that is good. I am only taking 2 pair of shoes, so only 1 is going in my bag and I will wear the other.
Clothes and toiletries are packed. Just need to gather up my notes and sift through them a bit. Am betting I will just leave most of them here and wing it with one guidebook to take along.
We hit the road tomorrow!
