I like that idea of living in some parisian palace, like Hemingway once did at the Ritz... Mind you I have a work interview at the Georges V next week, a start no?

Thanks for the wishes but I'm going there just for fun, it's a shame but the job I have now pays better and is more compatible with my private life, you know things like kids, girlfriend and other family members, two months ago I would have killed for an interview there... And sorry for hijacking the thread

I want to be able to go to Paris, eat every single particle of scrumptious French food that I want and not think about health (cholesterol and stuff from all the butter/Berthillon) or weight gain (butter/ice cream the culprit, again) while doing it. Come to think of it, I'd just like to stuff baguettes smeared with heavy gobs of that wonderful French butter into my mouth whilst walking along the Seine. Well, you said fantasy...no one said it had to be normal

If I could, I would . . . spend 3 or 4 weeks at a time in Aubeterre sur Dronne (we are currently renovating a very small house there, just two doors off the square) several times a year, and 3 or 4 days in Paris on both ends of each trip (the village is about 2-1/2 hours from Paris on the TGV, followed by a short drive by car).
Ray, if your "South of France" extends west (not just Provence or the Riviera), check out the web site for Aubeterre (do a Google search on the name, and watch the "virtual visit"). And, if you haven't been to the Dordogne yet, do some research on that - I think you could find your dream villlage very easily there! (And if you really want to dream, check out the English language real estate sites!)

Becky, Thanks for the tip. I will check out Aubeterre. I don't have a set area in mind. I've done a general gite search.

Joan; You can go to Paris ANY time you like, eat all the French food with the cream sauces you'd like, have GOBS of butter on your baguettes, and have 2 scoops of ice cream, 3 times a day from Berthillons. Of course you'll never gain an ounce and nothing in the world is going to happen to your cholestrol because, this is a fantasy s

ooh.... now if I could I would... go to Paris (wait, I'm going in 69 days thanks to Gitte's fabulous countdown thingy! ) and stay in a fabulous apartment in the 5th and go to mass daily at Notre Dame just to hear the beautiful choir and of course to say prayers for those not fortunate to be in Paris the same time as me... hmmm... ok that is a selfish thought so I had best go to confession while I'm there! .... I think also I would like to spend my days wandering around the streets and popping in to all the cafe's to sample their delightful and delicious food.... in short, I would like to be a Parisian but instead I'm a wannabe with a dream

What lovely dreams and fanatasies! I have never been to Paris, but nonetheless, I would love to have a small apartment there so I can visit when I please. I'd also like to have the money to be able to do so and not worry about being on a college student's budget!
