Ian - After that fabulous trip you gave Karen for her birthday, I'm sure she'll give you anything you want for Christmas. ;D

A similar CD to the one Gitte describes and that's readily available at Netflix .. We Built This City:Paris . It too describes the mining operations, building canals, the walls.

demarais - the abpve description is not about the DVD - it is about the book I also bought. I do expect the DVD to be more "touristy". Don't have time to check it today. Will do.

When I am in Paris walking its streets I always think how they manage to add more metro lines and digg more holes every day, and the city didnt´colapsed yet! It is really hollow underground.

Actually, many people feel grateful about all these underground holes, because those stopped developers (especially during the '70s building frenzy) from destroying old neighborhoods and building high-rise buildings instead . The fear that heavy buildings would cause some underground collapsing saved many of Gitte's favourite quartiers .

Very true, Anne - for instance the Mouzaïa quartier "L'Amérique" and "Campagne à Paris" near Porte de Bagnolet - and even Montmartre itself.
